‘Giants’ manager explains why he will no longer be present during the national anthem

With conflicting reports still being sorted through to discern precisely what could have been done to prevent the murder of 19 children and two teachers at a Texas elementary school Tuesday, another prominent sports figure has stepped forward to be a woke ambassador to the uninformed.

In what is sure to reignite protests against the national anthem throughout professional sports, San Francisco Giants manager Gabe Kapler declared Friday that he would be taking kneeling during “The Star-Spangled Banner” one step further and no longer be present on the field during its playing. His announcement was made ahead of a three-game series against the Cincinnati Reds at the Great American Ball Park.

“I don’t plan on coming out for the anthem going forward until I feel better about the direction of our country,” Kapler told reporters from the dugout.

“That’ll be the step,” he went on. “I don’t expect it to move the needle necessarily. It’s just something I feel strongly enough about to take that step.”

Kapler suggested if the media wanted further details they could reference a piece he published on his personal blog entitled, “Home of the Brave?”

The manager chided himself for having failed to take a similar position ahead of Wednesday’s game against the New York Mets when a tribute was held for the victims of the shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas.

“I wish I hadn’t let my discomfort compromise my integrity. I wish that I could have demonstrated what I learned from my dad, that when you’re dissatisfied with your country, you let it be known through protest,” he wrote. “The home of the brave should encourage this.”

Of course, in decrying the first responders to the tragedy and the freedoms that this country was founded on, Kapler demonstrated that he is woefully uninformed on the realities of firearms and the importance of the Second Amendment.

“Every time I place my hand over my heart and remove my hat, I’m participating in a self-congratulatory glorification of the ONLY county where these mass shooting take place,” he claimed repeating a popular Democratic talking point.

In fact, not only is the United States not “the ONLY country” where mass shootings take place, it isn’t even top of the list. According to World Population Review, data compiled between 2009-2015 landed the U.S. in 11th place with 0.089 deaths per million from mass public shootings. That rate is markedly lower than those of the top ten European countries on the list and considerably less than the worst country, Norway, presenting a whopping 1.888 deaths per million in comparison.

Their analysis also highlighted the difficulties in compiling this data as their is no uniform standard to define a mass shooting. Furthermore, it did not take into account all of the other countries in the world outside of Europe, the U.S. and Canada.

Kapler also wrote, “We stand in honor of a country where we elect representatives to serve us, to thoughtfully consider and enact legislation that protects the interests of all the people in this country and to move this country forward towards the vision of the ‘shining city on the hill.'”

“But instead,” he went on, “we thoughtlessly link our moment of silence and grief with the equally thoughtless display of celebration for a country that refuses to take up the concept of controlling the sale of weapons used nearly exclusively for the mass slaughter of human beings.”

However, a 2021 National Firearms Survey showed that nearly one-third of gun owners had used a firearm for self-defense on their property and that there are approximately 1.67 million incidents of defensive firearm use per year, far exceeding the number of violent firearm uses.

Of course, Kapler is no stranger to taking woke stances for social justice causes as he favored taking a knee during the national anthem in the 2020 season as protestors lambasted the police.
