New information is breaking on the Uvalde, Texas school massacre alleging parents ran into the building to rescue their children, a commander incorrectly believed that no lives were at risk, a tactical team was delayed from entering, and the shooting spanned four classrooms.
NBC News and other media outlets are covering new details that have emerged Friday concerning the mass shooting with Fox News reporting on a timeline of events.
On MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” co-host Willie Geist brought correspondent Sam Brock on-air to discuss the tragedy at Robb Elementary School that ended in the deaths of 19 children and two teachers.
He discussed how details of the incident provided by the police are being contradicted by parents and information given to the media.
“What we have heard from local law enforcement officials here is not only confusing but utterly conflicted,” Brock asserted.

“They were trying to rip down fences, break into windows to get into that school building so they could do whatever possible to try to save their kids’ lives. And ultimately, 19 children between the ages of 8 and 10, 4th graders, murdered as an hour goes by,” the reporter intoned.
“And that really is the heart of this investigation right now. And so many questions surrounding that very issue. Why do you have a Texas law enforcement agency saying the protocol was to wait for this sort of more tactical assistance and special forces to arrive to handle the situation where there were kids dying by the minute inside of that school?” Brock asked.
“And where, you know, you mentioned one classroom, originally we were told that all of the victims were in that one location. And now it appears that there were four classrooms with kids and potentially teachers affected,” he charged.
“We now have firsthand accounts from parents who say they, in fact, did go into the school and get their kids. They just weren’t going to wait anymore,” Geist noted.
That report follows on the heels of one put out by the Wall Street Journal that gave an account by a woman named Angeli Rose Gomez, who claimed after she was released from handcuffs, she rushed into the school and got her two children out while the police officers waited outside.
The Wall Street Journal is also reporting that “Police who responded to the mass shooting at an elementary school here waited around an hour to enter the classroom where the gunman had locked himself because a commander on scene incorrectly thought no lives were at risk despite repeated 911 calls from children inside, the director of the Texas Department of Safety said Friday.”
The #Uvalde timeline offered by Texas officials right now is gutting. There were 19 police officers in the hallway who made the decision not to break into the room, at the same time children inside were alive and calling 911. One begged “please send police now.”

“The decision was a mistake and it is unclear how many lives it may have cost,” said the director, Steven McCraw, during a news conference.
“Meanwhile, at least 19 law enforcement officers waited in the hallway, because the commander on scene believed no lives were at risk and it was better to wait until a tactical team could get keys to the classroom before entering, according to Mr. McCraw. A Border Patrol tactical team ultimately did so, and killed the shooter, at 12:50,” the media outlet said.
“The on-scene commander at that time believed it had transitioned from an active shooter to a barricaded subject,” McCraw remarked. “Obviously, based upon the information we have, children in that classroom were at risk and it was in fact still an active shooter… It was the wrong decision. Period.”
Two officials briefed on the situation also told The New York Times that specialized Border Patrol agents arrived at the school between 12 p.m. and 12:10 p.m. which is roughly 30 minutes earlier than previously thought.
A border patrol tactical team arrived at Robb Elementary School right after the shooting started but were held back from entering the school by Uvalde police.

The officials claim that the Uvalde Police Department held the Border Patrol agents back from going inside.
