‘Woke’ San Fran mayor wakes up, boycotts Pride parade over ban on cops appearing in uniform

Leftists may finally be coming to realize that more often than not, the “radical inclusion” of the woke actively excludes members of society as progressive San Francisco Mayor London Breed announced she will be boycotting the Pride Parade over certain strict attendance guidelines.

With just over a month before the annual event resumes after a two-year hiatus following the pandemic, the June 26 San Francisco Pride Parade has drawn criticism from select members of the LGBTQ community. Ahead of the festivities, San Francisco Pride has stipulated that officers are prohibited from marching if they choose to wear their service uniforms.

Considering her record of actively promoting the defunding of the police, it was something of a surprise to many when Breed declared she would be putting her backing behind law enforcement on this matter.

“I love the Pride Parade, and what it means for our LGBTQ community and for our city,” Breed said in a statement. “It’s one of my favorite events of the year. However, if the Pride Board does not reverse its decision, I will join our city public safety departments that are not participating in the Pride Parade.”

“Let’s be very clear about who we are talking about: brave women and men who not only have the courage to put on their uniforms and go out and risk their lives every day to serve our city,” she went on adding, “but who also have the courage to do so as openly out women and men in uniform.”

In their own joint statement, members of the San Francisco Police, Firefighters and Sheriffs Departments under the banner of San Francisco Police Officer’s Pride Alliance exclaimed, “We, the police officers of the San Francisco Police Officers Pride Alliance, stand firm in our decision that we will not be pushed back into the closet.”

As the San Francisco Chronicle explained, the officers are not prohibited from marching, but they may only make their affiliation known by wearing a T-shirt emblazoned with an SFPD logo.

“This committee would not order the leather community to wear polyester at the parade,” the statement continued. “This committee would not order the drag community to wear flannel. But they have told us, peace officers, that if we wear our uniforms, we may not attend.”

“The board of SF Pride offered only one option: that LGBTQ+ peace officers hang up their uniforms, put them back in the closet, and march in civilian attire. The San Francisco Pride Committee has asked the LGBTQ+ peace officers to go back in the closet. The LGBTQ+ members of San Francisco’s public safety agencies believe that radical inclusivity is a core San Francisco value and are asking that SF Pride reverse its decision,” they further stated.

Suzanne Ford, the interim executive director of San Francisco Pride argued, “We didn’t ask anyone to hide, or not to denote who they were. We just did not want full uniforms, out of harm reduction to marginalized members of our community.”

Naturally, Ford failed to see the reality that in seeking “harm reduction” to one marginalized community, harm was being inflicted on another marginalized community. The interim executive director went on, “We’ve asked for this gesture, (which) would say to some members of our community who don’t feel safe around police, that the police heard our concerns, and responded in a positive way.”

The ban has been in place since the 2019 event was interrupted when protestors against the police blocked the route of the parade. Breed attempted to make clear that her boycott against the parade was not a boycott against the LGBTQ community as, despite unsuccessful negotiations, she will still raise the Pride flag over City Hall as events take place throughout the city.
