NYC Mayor Eric Adams calls pro-life crowd ‘radical extremists,’ backs abortions up until day of birth

New York City Mayor Eric Adams appears to have engaged in some “extreme” pandering to the pro-abortion cohort on Saturday while attending a pro-choice rally.

In a related social media message, he described abortion as “healthcare” and a “human right” that “radical extremists” are trying to prohibit.

According to Fox News, Adams allegedly indicated at the “Bans Off Our Bodies” rally that he favors abortion without limits up to the day of birth. “I think women should have the right to choose with their bodies. Men should not have that right to choose how a woman should treat their body,” Adams reportedly said.

Many politicians seem to have an affinity for commenting on things outside their direct purview.

Democrat Adams, moreover, seems to be very interested in positioning himself as a woke celebrity, some critics contend.

Adams also declared on Twitter that we, which he described as the majority, “will fight like hell” to retain abortion rights.

According to a recent  New York Post editorial, however, “the fact is that most of Americans are neither completely pro-life nor totally pro-choice, but a mix of both.”

“Mayor Eric Adams and Gov. Kathy Hochul have both said they favor making Covid-19 vaccinations mandatory for all public schoolchildren,” the New York Times reported last week.

Earlier this year, Adams — who apparently is an advocate of the my body, my choice philosophy — fired about 1,400 unvaccinated city workers.

Mayor Adams, 61, a former NYPD captain and Brooklyn Borough President who ran for the mayor’s office in part on a law-and-order platform, was a lock to replace far-left Bill de Blasio after his first-place finish in the July 2021 Democrat primary.

He easily defeated GOP standard-bearer Curtis Sliwa, the Guardian Angels founder and radio personality in the November 2021 general election.

Violent crime is still skyrocketing in the crime-ridden city, however, which suggests perhaps that Adams might be all talk or mostly all talk and no action when it comes to public safety.

U.S Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, who, like Adams, is from Brooklyn, ratcheted-up  some fearmongering or gaslighting after the chamber failed to pass a far-reaching abortion law last Wednesday.

Elect MAGA Republicans, if you want to see a nationwide ban on abortion, if you want to see doctors and women arrested, if you want to see no exceptions for rape or incest,” the Democrat claimed, without evidence.

The pro-life/pro-choice debate took on greater currency and prompted demonstrations in NYC and elsewhere, including outside the homes of conservative justices, after the leak of a draft Supreme Court opinion in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization authored by Justice Samuel Alito that could strike down the 1973 landmark Roe v. Wade decision.

The Mississippi state law that is in dispute in Dobbs would ban most abortions after 15 weeks.

“Recent Fox News polling shows that over half of Americans believe that abortion should be prohibited after 15 weeks of pregnancy,” FNC claimed.

If Alito’s opinion ever becomes law, the abortion-rights issue would return to the states to regulate individually.

The pregnancy-termination procedure almost certainly would remain legal in blue states like New York based on statutes already on the books as well as other measures that they would presumably quickly enact.

In an interesting historical footnote, the late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, even as she is celebrated as a liberal champion of women’s rights, expressed misgivings about the scope of the Roe decision.

“In n many public remarks, Ginsburg argued an incremental approach to abortion rights would have been preferable and that the sweeping ruling in Roe ultimately ended up fueling divisions around the issue,” the Post separately reported.
