Psaki claims Biden made up ‘Ultra MAGA’ label all by himself, Team Trump already owns it

If there is one thing President Joe Biden has gotten correct during his time in office, it’s that the current driving force behind the right “is not your father’s Republican Party,” and the base won’t merely take name-calling idly. No, now the “ultra-MAGA” take the petty barbs and use them to their advantage.

While speaking at the White House Tuesday, Biden gave an address on the economy where he attempted to turn the worsening outlook into a positive message ahead of the midterm elections. In order to better achieve that end, he repeatedly used his new favorite term for America First Republicans, which he evidently coined himself.

“I never expected – let me say – let me say this carefully: I never expected the ultra-MAGA Republicans, who seem to control the Republican Party now, to have been able to control the Republican Party,” Biden said, “I – I never anticipated that happening.”

Whether he expected it or not, you’d at least think he would have learned from former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton with her failed attempt at maligning President Donald Trump’s supporters as “deplorable,” that weaponized rhetoric no longer works to their advantage.

That is especially true when adding a positive adjective to the Make America Great Again (MAGA) slogan that has been intrinsic to the campaigns.

“I will tell you, it is – it is the president’s phrase,” White House press secretary Jen Psaki said later that day, “and the president made those comments himself just last week, as you know…And so, to him, adding a little ‘ultra’ to it, give it a little extra pop.”

That little pop is exceedingly marketable and will likely feature prominently at the next Save America rally.

Psaki seemed to realize that the moniker had more power for Republicans than the president may have intended as she refused to place the label on any specific legislator. Like Biden’s policies themselves, he can say one thing, but the results are the complete opposite of the intended effect.

During his speech he tried to argue between two ways forward for the country, saying,”Look, the bottom line is this: Americans have a choice right now between two paths, reflecting two very different sets of values. My plan attacks inflation and grows the economy by lowering costs for working families, giving workers well-deserved raises, reducing the deficit by historic levels, and making big corporations and the very wealthiest Americans pay their fair share.”

“The other path,” Biden went on, “is the ultra-MAGA plan put forward by congressional Republicans, to raise taxes on working families; lower the income of American workers; threaten sacred programs Americans count on like Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid; and give break after break to big corporations and billionaires – just like they did the last time they were in power when their top priority was a reckless $2 trillion tax cut going – the majority of that going to the very wealthiest Americans, which ballooned the deficit, and not a penny of it was paid for.”

Sen. Rick Scott (R-Fla.) already set the president straight on what his 11-point plan would do and current events show Biden has it backwards yet again. You can’t argue that Republicans are the party of Big Business when your administration is pushing through backroom contracts for Amazon and senators are following Gov. Ron DeSantis’ (R-Fla.) lead to dismantle the long-held benefits of woke corporations.

He never expected ultra-MAGA would be the driving force behind Republicanism, but everything he has done has led to that outcome.
