In a statement more likely meant to distance President Joe Biden from any culpability rather than meant as an attempt to “unring the bell,” White House press secretary Jen Psaki took an about-face Monday regarding protests against Supreme Court justices after many argued “in declining to condemn it” the “Administration condoned it.”
Following the leak of Justice Samuel Alito’s draft majority opinion regarding Dobbs v. Jackson’s Women’s Health Organization that could see Roe v. Wade be overturned before the summer, protests and calls for action rang out from pro-abortion activists. Some went as far as to dox the home addresses of conservative members of the court in an effort to pressure a change in the ruling before its official release.
Fox News White House correspondent Peter Doocy questioned Psaki on this Friday explaining, “These activists posted a map with the home addresses of the Supreme Court justices. Is that the kind of thing this president wants to help your side make their point?”

“Look, I think the president’s view is that there’s a lot of passion, a lot of fear, a lot of sadness from many, many people across this country about what they saw in that leaked document. We obviously want people’s privacy to be respected,” Psaki said. “We want people to protest peacefully if they want to – to protest. That is certainly what the president’s view would be.”
“I don’t have an official U.S. government position on where people protest,” she concluded at the time.
However, Psaki was singing a different tune Monday when she released a statement on Twitter detailing that the president “strongly believes in the Constitutional right to protest. But that should never include violence, threats, or vandalism. Judges perform an incredibly important function in our society, and they must be able to do their jobs without concern for their personal safety.”

“This is a good statement,” Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis spokeswoman Christina Pushaw wrote in response, “but it’s way too late. The Press Secretary had the opportunity to condemn this abhorrent behavior before it started last week — and in declining to condemn it, she & the Biden Administration condoned it. Shameful.”
On that point, Pushaw is absolutely correct and the corporate media fell in line over the weekend touting the party line with their own veiled acts of commission. CNN’s Laura Jarrett for example said, “I think for a lot of people a conversation about civility feels like it misses the mark when constitutional rights that you believe that you had for over 50 years are about to be overturned.”
“The justices have security,” Jarrett insisted as though that justified any threats imposed on them or their family members. “So far,” she qualified, “all of the protests have seemed overwhelmingly non-violent. There are plenty of protests that happen every single day in this country, around the country, at abortion clinics, blocking women from getting into clinics and we don’t cover those as if there’s four-alarm fires.”
While those protests did remain non-violent, there is no telling what may come as there are already plans in the works for marches against Justices Amy Coney Barrett, Neil Gorsuch, and Clarence Thomas following the protests at the homes of Justice Brett Kavanaugh and Chief Justice John Roberts. Justice Samuel Alito had to relocate to an unspecified location out of concern for safety.
As Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) pointed out Sunday, “It is disgraceful, and Joe Biden used to be chairman of the Judiciary Committee. Joe Biden knows it’s disgraceful, he’s literally threatening the lives of these justices by the mob they’re unleashing, it’s the same thing we saw with Black Lives Matter and Antifa riots where the left embraced them, and now they’re embracing mob violence to get their partisan outcome.”
