Discovery+ is launching a reality series comprised of six episodes entitled “Generation Drag” on June 1 that will be produced by “Dancing with the Stars” host Tyra Banks, chronicling the journey of five teens and their families into the world of drag queens.
The show will follow the young drag queens as they prepare for their biggest drag performance at Dragutante, a drag show that is designed as a platform for LGBTQ+ teens to express themselves.
The teens involved include Jameson, Noah, Vinny, Bailey, and Nabela. The young performers will be getting ready for a drag ball and will be videoed as they travel with their parents to Denver, Colorado for the event.
Dragutante is an event described by its organizers as a drag ball for kids “upon which children under the age of eighteen can express themselves through the performance art of Drag.” Children ages 8 to 18 years old perform drag while working side by side with professional drag queens, getting their makeup applied and crafting a look that lets them express their “inner diva.”
The series is produced by “Made In Chelsea” producer Monkey, a production studio that is part of Universal International Studios, a division of Universal Studio Group.

Jasmine Stodel, Clinton Irey, Hayley Lozitsky, David St. John, Rob Schwarze, and Ollie Brack will all executive produce the series with Banks.
“In this heartfelt and joyous coming of age series, Generation Drag celebrates a group of amazingly talented teens who put their creativity, passion, and talent on center stage,” proclaimed Howard Lee, who is the president of TLC Streaming and Network Originals, to Deadline. “Jameson, Noah, Vinny, Bailey, and Nabela may only be in their teens, yet they are well beyond their years in being true to themselves and recognizing the importance of living authentically. Their story is an inspiration to express yourself at any age.”
“I have such admiration and respect for these teens. They are bravely navigating coming into their own in a world that can be very challenging and not always accepting. What is so beautiful is seeing their parents and siblings supporting them,” Tyra Banks enthusiastically declared, according to the media outlet. “These teens’ laser-focused tenacity inspires my team and me and we are honored to share their stories. I can’t wait for these popping personalities to show their fierceness to the world.”

In the press release from Discovery+, the series is promoted as an “inspiring documentary series, the teens juggle the pressures of being young adults while pursuing drag greatness.”
“Between the glitz and glam, ups and downs, and nerve-rattling stakes, their parents and ‘drag moms’ guide them along the tumultuous journey to the ultimate Dragutante stage in Denver, Colorado,” the statement explains.
“Alongside them are their parents who are on their own path of learning how to guide a child who wants to embrace drag, and oftentimes, they must step outside their comfort zone in an effort to be there for their children who are still finding themselves,” it continues.
“Whether it be adjusting to new pronouns, shopping for the perfect platform shoe, or performing alongside them in a local drag show, their love and unwavering support prove their kids are never alone on their journey,” the statement promotes.

Jameson performs as “Ophelia Peaches.” His mother helped him prepare after he learned the art of drag from adult drag performers Ginger Douglas and Chad Michaels when he was a child, according to Bounding in Comics. She “conceptualized” the event.
Noah performs as “Poptart.” He is a trans female teen that is ostensibly exploring her first romantic relationship and objects to being referred to as a boy instead of as transgender.
Vinny performs as “Vinessa Shimmer.” He has been involved in numerous Drag Queen Story Time events with adult performer Dixie Krystals.
Bailey has been a drag queen since he was 12. His drag persona is “Nemo.”
Nabela has been a part of drag culture and the Pride Parade since he was 9 years old. His persona is called “DunkaShay Monroe.”
