President Joe Biden has previously vowed that he would do lunch with Vice President Kamala Harris once a week just as he did as President Barack Obama’s vice president but he has only managed to dine midday twice with her in 2022, according to his calendar.
“That’s the deal when we’re both in-country,” Biden asserted in an interview with People while discussing his vice president. “Which we’ll be for a while because of COVID, and I see her all the time.”
“I made the same deal with her that Barack and I made,” the president said just weeks after his inauguration. That included dropping by the Oval Office whenever Harris needs to and carte blanche over executive office meetings as well as lunch alone once a week.”
But according to a review of Biden’s calendar, the two have only broken bread over lunch twice this year.
Did you ask him? Because in all fairness, he doesn’t remember any of his lunches.

“For Biden and Harris, lunch this year has followed major developments. The two shared a meal on February 8, when the search for a Supreme Court nominee to replace retiring Justice Stephen Breyer was ongoing, and another lunch on March 30, shortly after Biden returned from Warsaw to rally the West after Russia invaded Ukraine,” RealClearPolitics reported.
“The president and vice president are in constant touch with each other,” Deputy Press Secretary Chris Meagher told RealClearPolitics in an interview. “And he relies on her counsel, partnership, and friendship as they work together to continue to grow the economy, cut costs for working families, rally the world in the face of Russia’s aggression, and make historic investments in our nation’s infrastructure.”

Biden and Harris reportedly do not interact much and have reportedly become increasingly distant toward each other over the last year. The vice president’s mishandling of various issues and claims of a toxic work environment in her office, as well as a mass exodus, are not helping her image or her relationship with the president. Neither are her trademark word-salad responses to questions by reporters.
Harris tested positive for COVID on Tuesday but strangely, Biden was not listed as one of her close contacts. According to the White House, the vice president has not seen the president since April 18.

“Today, Vice President Harris tested positive for COVID-19 on rapid and PCR tests,” Harris press secretary Kirsten Allen said in a statement according to Fox News. “She has exhibited no symptoms, will isolate and continue to work from the Vice President’s residence.”
“She has not been a close contact to the President or First Lady due to their respective recent travel schedules. She will follow CDC guidelines and the advice of her physicians. The Vice President will return to the White House when she tests negative,” she added.
White House press secretary Jen Psaki attempted to do damage control over the obvious distance between the two liberal leaders, telling reporters that Biden and Harris spoke on Wednesday and that lunches still remain a priority for them, according to Fox News.
“Obviously, they’re not going to be dining in person while she is quarantining at home, but they did speak yesterday,” she stated. “I expect they will speak regularly while she is quarantining.”
