The number of illegal immigrants coming across the U.S. southern border to live in America exploded by one million under President Joe Biden’s progressive immigration policies during his first year in office and it cost taxpayers $9.4 billion according to a conservative research group.
The Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) conducted a study and found that the number of illegal immigrants in the U.S. skyrocketed from 14.5 million to 15.5 million in just the first year of the Biden administration.
FAIR estimates the U.S. is spending $143.1 billion on public services for illegal immigrants. That includes things such as public schools, migrant schools, teaching them English, hospital stays, Medicaid, law enforcement, and other welfare programs.
“Businesses are once again hiring, and many unscrupulous employers are using this as an opportunity to turn to reliably cheap labor to undercut the market and make up for lost profits resulting from economic shutdowns stemming from the pandemic,” the report asserts. “These unethical hiring practices occur even though millions of Americans remain unemployed or underemployed.”
Our new report finds that the illegal alien population increased by about 1 million in 2021, adding an additional $9.4 billion in costs to American taxpayers. In total, some 15.5 million illegal aliens now reside in the United States, costing you $143.1 billion a year. https://t.co/hA0TH6D62B

“President Biden and the people he appointed to key positions in his administration have pursued the most radical open-borders policies in the history of any sovereign nation, and these new numbers bear that out,” FAIR President Dan Stein declared in a statement. “If not for the COVID pandemic, which forced the administration to keep Title 42 in place last year, the additional influx and costs to American taxpayers would have been far greater.”
Approximately 1.9 million illegal immigrants were apprehended crossing the southern border in 2021 and 2.4 million have interacted with Border Patrol agents since Biden became president, according to the Daily Mail.
Biden has promoted what he calls a more “humane” immigration policy that has arguably been catastrophic for the United States. The push for opening the floodgates to illegal immigration by Biden has included the reinstatement of catch-and-release, ditching the Remain-in-Mexico policy for immigrants seeking asylum, and ordering Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to only arrest criminal lawbreakers. The president also ended border wall construction and has advocated for amnesty for millions of illegal immigrants already in the country.

FAIR admits that any attempt to track the massive flow of illegal immigrants into the country is going to be “inexact.”
“The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) only (loosely) counts foreign nationals who enter and leave the United States in a lawful manner. In truth, we do not know exactly how many people cross the border unlawfully and evade immigration authorities. We can only estimate these figures,” FAIR noted in a statement.
FAIR is basing its one million illegal immigrant estimate on the presumption that the government data is lowballed. The number was derived by taking the total number of foreign-born residents living in the U.S. and then subtracting the number of legal migrants that are in the country. Data was utilized from the Census Bureau’s 2020 American Community Survey and the Current Population Survey.
California, unsurprisingly, has the highest number of illegal immigrants in the nation. The population in that state sits at 3.3 million. That dubious distinction is followed by Texas at 2.2 million, Florida at 1.2 million, and New York at 1.1 million.
In March, a purported 221,000 illegal immigrants were taken into custody which approached a 20-year high.
The Biden administration has been preparing to lift Title 42, the CDC’s public health order keeping many illegal immigrants from entering the United States. Doing so would almost certainly produce a massive wave of illegal immigrants flooding over the border. However, a Louisiana judge issued a temporary restraining order on Monday delaying the policy’s end. The Biden administration said that it will comply with the order.
If and when Title 42 is ended, DHS is projecting that the number of illegal immigrants crossing the border each day could rise to 18,000. That is more than double the rate of 7,000 per day currently crossing over.
The Border Patrol and ICE are warning that they could run out of money to carry out their duties as early as July if illegal immigration projections hold true when Title 42 ends.
In a stunningly dishonest estimation, DHS Sec. Alejandro Mayorkas told Congress on Wednesday that the border crisis is being “effectively managed.” He asserted that the CDC has “exclusive jurisdiction” over Title 42.
DHS Secretary Mayorkas publicly testified today that the Biden admin has “effectively managed” the border crisis.
But in private w/ BP agents in August, he called the situation “unsustainable”, and said “we’re going to lose”.

Republicans nailed Mayorkas for the ongoing catastrophe at the border in hearings before Congress. Predictably, he blamed former President Donald Trump’s administration for everything going wrong at the border and beyond.
“We inherited a broken and dismantled system that is already under strain,” he claimed. “It was not built to manage the current levels of migration flow.”
DHS Secretary Mayorkas claims “our immigration system was not built to manage the current levels” of illegal migration. He’s correct. It was designed to deter and prevent uncontrolled illegal immigration. He deliberately wrecked deterrence and prevention.

DHS Sec destroying credibility by continuing to peddle the false statement that the Biden Admin inherited a broken immigration system that was under strain. It’s clear to reasonable Americans that the Biden Admin broke it, lit it on fire and continues to pour gasoline on it.

“Only Congress can fix it,” Mayorkas charged.
“We have effectively managed an unprecedented number of noncitizens seeking to enter the United States,” he noted as if the Biden administration had nothing to do with the onslaught of illegal immigrants crossing into the US.
