DeSantis points to San Fran ‘dumpster fire,’ worries Dems will move to FL and ‘vote the exact same way’

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) has his finger on the pulse of matters that truly concern his constituents and, during a forum held in Doral, he acknowledged that trepidations felt by longtime residents have merit as voters flee progressive havens like the “dumpster fire” that is San Francisco.

The remarks were part of a discussion hosted by The Daily Wire’s editor emeritus Ben Shapiro at the Trump Doral Pesach Program as DeSantis spent time with the Jewish community during Passover. In addition to hot topics like the actions taken against Disney, attendees were concerned about the influx of new residents relocating from blue states like California that could offset the gains made toward conservative causes.

“There is cause for concern because if you look at like Texas would have all these companies move from California over the years,” DeSantis expressed to the gathering. “So you’d have companies move from San Francisco to Austin and they’d bring hundreds of employees with them, and those employees would vote the exact same way they voted that turned San Francisco into the dumpster fire that it is.”

“And it’s like the leftism – they will not draw the connection between their leftist ideology and the destruction that’s all around them,” he continued, “and so it is a problem; because I do think there’s a class of voters who would come to Florida and they would continue to vote the same way.”

Crime in San Francisco, as in other major metropolises, has grown significantly worse as the “Defund the Police” movement has increased soft-on-crime policies by progressive district attorneys. Much like Los Angeles County DA George Gascón who is currently facing the potential of a second recall election in less than one year’s time, San Francisco DA Chesa Boudin is up against a recall as well while facing intense backlash for the lack of safety in the Bay Area.

San Francisco Mayor London Breed (D) attempted to dismiss claims like those made by DeSantis in her State of the City address earlier this year, saying, “You know, there’s a lot of noise about what’s happening in our city. You see it in the headlines, often in the right-wing media. They love to talk about San Francisco, don’t they? You see it on social media. You see one video take off as if it’s telling the whole truth about who we are. I know it’s challenging with all that noise to really understand what’s happening.”

Yet, the statistics are undeniable.

Overall property crime has increased by 10.4 percent in the city from this point last year, and vehicle theft, up 5.6 percent, has led residents to post signs in their cars denoting they were empty of valuables. With understaffed police departments being overworked, shootings were reportedly up 33 percent from 2020 to 2021.

“The most difficult thing is our city’s leadership,” former Republican San Francisco mayoral candidate Richie Greenberg told Fox News Digital. “The elected leaders and who they appoint to these different departments, they’re all a mess.”

So, even though Greenberg noted of the drug-riddled homeless encampments, that officials “come through on a regular basis to ensure that it’s sanitary…They try and remove the tents if possible, and any garbage, needles,” the city remains overrun with drug use and criminality.

Figures have shown that despite those fleeing cities like San Francisco, Republicans have made gains in registrations in Florida and now have over 100,000 more registered party members than Democrats.

DeSantis noted the improvement and said, “I’ve had more Republicans move into Florida than Democrats move into Florida, and so, that’s pretty significant. I think what that’s telling me is that people are very sensitive to the state governments that they live under. I think COVID opened a lot of people’s eyes because, literally, who your governor was, was the difference between your kid even being able to go to school at all.”
