In a crunch-time decision, the U.S. government has reportedly decided against imposing economic sanctions against Russian Federation President Vladimir Putin’s alleged baby mama.

In response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the U.S. and its allies have levied “unprecedented” and “devastating” financial costs on 600 or more “targets,” which include Putin himself, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Putin’s two adult daughters, along with various Russian officials, politicians, businesses, oligarchs, and other entities.

Putin’s purported girlfriend, an ex-athlete and model who reportedly spends most of her time in an upscale enclave in Switzerland, is not on the list, however, the Wall Street Journal has reported in a scoop headlined, “U.S. Withholds Sanctions on a Very Close Putin Associate: His Reputed Girlfriend.”

“Yet one person has been spared, in a last-minute decision: Alina Kabaeva, the woman the U.S. government believes to be Mr. Putin’s girlfriend and the mother of at least three of his children. Ms. Kabaeva, a former Olympic champion rhythmic gymnast known in the sport for her extreme flexibility and an international doping scandal, is suspected of playing a role in hiding Mr. Putin’s personal wealth overseas, U.S. officials said, and remains a potential sanctions target,” the news outlet explained.

The Biden administration, despite its rhetoric during the crisis, apparently concluded that it was too risky or confrontational to try to blacklist the woman whom officials purportedly consider Putin’s paramour.

Putin, an ex-KGB officer, divorced his longtime spouse Ludmilla Shkrebneva in 2014. It’s not entirely clear when Putin and Kabaeva began their relationship if any.

A former parliamentarian in Putin’s United Russia Party, Kabaeva is 30 years younger than the Kremlin boss, a man who has controlled Russia with an iron hand since 1999, including a stint as prime minister.

“The belief among U.S. officials debating the move is that sanctioning Ms. Kabaeva would be deemed so personal a blow to Mr. Putin that it could further escalate tensions between Russia and the U.S. The 69-year-old Mr. Putin has never acknowledged a relationship with Ms. Kabaeva, a 39-year-old former cover model for Russian Vogue,” the news outlet claimed.

Biden’s National Security Council reportedly made the last-minute call about the person the U.S. government describes as Putin’s mistress.

“In Ms. Kabaeva’s case, the Treasury department had prepared the sanctions against her, but the NSC made an 11th hour decision to pull her name from a list set to be announced,” the WSJ added.

Kabaeva was also a torchbearer in the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. “Mr. Putin, responding to media speculation that he had personally picked Ms. Kabaeva, told reporters he wouldn’t ‘interfere in the process,'” the WSJ recalled.

In the meantime, as the horrific war in eastern Europe tragically continues, questions or rumors persist about the physical health of Putin, who was recently seen looking bloated and gripping a table during a meeting with one of his inner circle.

“New footage of Vladimir Putin appearing unsteady, fidgeting and biting his lips during an Orthodox Easter service in Moscow on Sunday has added to suspicions that the Russian leader is seriously ill. The frail-looking strongman is seen swaying during the Mass conducted by the Russian Orthodox Church, which has strongly backed its leader’s so-called “special military operation” in Ukraine,” the New York Post reported on Monday.

Some are claiming that the video is a cut-and-paste job, however.
