An award-winning independent Russian media outlet has published a series of stunning revelations about Russian President Vladimir Putin’s health — including that he may suffer from thyroid cancer — that contrasts sharply with the infallible “alpha male” image of the Russian leader that the Kremlin has painted.

Filed Friday, the report by the outlet Proekt begins by examining the Kremlin’s attempts to hide the reality about the 69-year-old Russian leader’s health.

“[I]t was so important the Kremlin wanted to create an image of an alpha male president that they decided not to say anything bad about his health at all. The authorities tried not to acknowledge even the most simple fever, not to mention sports injuries,” the report reads.

The irony is rich, because one of the Russian president’s most frequent ailments has been physical injuries sustained from horse-riding.

“The head of state was a keen horseman in the [90s], and the injuries associated with this activity did not pass him by. One of his falls from the saddle was quite serious: Putin ‘couldn’t even get back on his feet’ for a while, and had to undergo a lengthy medical treatment,” according to Proekt.

The report then moves on to discussing some of the Russian president’s bizarre health-related habits, including bathing in blood that has been extracted from the red deers in the Russian Republic (like a state) of Altai.

The Russians, including apparently Putin, believe this blood has a therapeutic effect:

“Sergei Shoigu, the then head of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, was the first person in the Russian elite to become interested in antler baths. In the mid-2000s, Shoigu brought Putin to Altai for the first time, convincing him of the benefits of this treatment, which supposedly improves the cardiovascular system and rejuvenates the skin,” the report notes.

“On one of his trips, Putin, who was starting to think more about his health, immersed himself in a bathtub containing an odorant extract from blood-filled deer antlers. An acquaintance of the president claims that he had been warned that there is no conclusive evidence of the benefits of antler baths. But Putin liked it, and since then he has revisited Altai multiple times.”

The report continues by contrasting this bizarre belief in alternative medicine with the stunning fact that these days, “Putin is now accompanied by a huge team of doctors, including a surgeon-oncologist.”

WebMD notes that surgical oncologists are “general surgeons with specialty training in procedures for diagnosing, staging (determining the stage of cancer), or removing cancerous growths.”

It used to be that Putin began “paying visits more and more often” to Moscow hospitals, according to Proekt’s sources, but eventually the doctors began coming to him.

“[T]he doctors fly to Putin’s residences and accompany him on his trips. … Back in 2016-17, the president was regularly accompanied by an average of five doctors. During that period, a fairly standard set of on-duty specialists worked with the president,” the outlet notes.

The doctor who reportedly spent the most time with the Russian leader was oncologist-surgeon Evgeny Selivanov.

“Over the course of four years, the doctor has flown to him 35 times and spent a total of 166 days with the head of state,” according to Proekt.

“Only otolaryngologists Igor Esakov and Alexey Shcheglov fly to Putin more often than the oncology surgeon — the latter has flown to him 59 times and stayed by his side for 282 days. All three of them work together very often — in four years they have been to Sochi at least 18 times.”

Otolaryngologists are doctors who specialize “in problems of the head and neck,” according to WebMD.

This combination of frequent visits from oncologists and otolaryngologists strongly suggests Putin may suffer from thyroid cancer.

“Thyroid diseases, including cancer, are usually first diagnosed by an otolaryngologist, after which an oncologist and a surgeon get involved in the treatment, Israeli doctor Michael Fremderman explained,” Proekt’s report reads.

Plus, the Russian president has “publicly demonstrated an interest in the problem of thyroid cancer.”

“In July 2020, he met with the head of the National Medical Research Center for Endocrinology, Ivan Dedov — he is the boss of Putin’s eldest daughter Maria. Dedov told the President about the high prevalence of thyroid cancer and told about a new hormonal drug, Tirojin, which fights metastases after surgery,” according to Proekt.

More recently, the Russian president reportedly began “acting strangely” last fall. He specifically suddenly went into COVID isolation all over again for no good reason given the pandemic’s decline.

“The news came as a surprise even to the president’s entourage. His press secretary was initially confused and denied the chief’s words — supposedly, the president was speaking “figuratively” about isolation. Nevertheless, Putin went into isolation the next day, took part in the Duma election from his own office, and did not appear in public for the entire month of September,” the report reads.

“In medical circles, it is believed that the president was undergoing a complicated procedure related to some kind of thyroid disease during this period, according to an acquaintance of the chief doctor at one of the large hospitals whose specialists were involved in the treatment.”

Despite Putin’s macho demeanor, it appears he’s far more fragile than appearances suggest. Though to be fair, so is every normal human being — which, it turns out, is exactly what this pretend “alpha male” superhero really is.
