The flat-out denials from President Joe Biden about having any involvement in Hunter Biden’s business dealings have only grown less believable as more revelations from his son’s laptop have surfaced and now, under heightened scrutiny, an examination of White House visitor logs is raising questions as to the meetings the then-vice president had with his son’s business partner and supports claims of “pay-to-play.”
During President Barack Obama’s administration, Eric Schwerin was serving as the president of Rosemont Seneca Partners, the investment firm founded by Hunter Biden and Chris Heinz, stepson to former Secretary of State John Kerry. According to findings by the New York Post, Schwerin visited the White House and other official locations at least 19 times between 2009 and 2015, and the timing on those meetings appear more than coincidental.
In October 2009, in what may be the earliest interaction Schwerin had with the administration, the businessman met with the vice president’s assistant for intergovernmental affairs and public liaison, Evan Ryan, in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building that houses the vice president’s office. As has been reported, email correspondence with Ryan was a key aspect of the lines of communication for Hunter Biden and his associates.
For example, in February 2010, the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades Director of Government Relations Chris Sloan emailed Ryan to curry favor with the vice president to pressure Obama into nominating union lawyer Craig Becker to the National Labor Relations Board. Hunter was a part of that email correspondence. Ryan, who was appointed White House Cabinet Secretary in January 2021, went on to marry Antony Blinken, Biden’s secretary of state.
In reaction to the findings, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) told the Post, “It’s increasingly obvious that Hunter Biden’s business revolved around providing access to his father and the highest levers of power. It reeks of pay-to-play.”
The emails from the laptop have already suggested that Schwerin was not only deeply tied to Biden’s financial dealings but that the businessman had personal access and control of accounts. In a series of messages, Schwerin confirmed that he had received the vice president’s “Delaware tax refund check” and that he was moving money from Joe Biden’s account to Hunter Biden’s. “I am depositing it in [Joe Biden’s] account and writing a check in that amount back to you since he owes it to you,” Schwerin wrote to Hunter. “Don’t think I need to run it by him, but if you want to go ahead.”
In August 2011, Schwerin met with the vice president’s executive assistant Kellen Suber in the West Wing days after Biden had arrived in China for meetings with leaders including future Chinese President Xi Jinping. Furthermore, Schwerin met with the vice president’s aides in March and May of 2013 shortly before Hunter created BHR Partners with Chinese businessman Jonathan Li in June.
Schwerin even met directly with Joe Biden in the West Wing in November of 2010 around the same time that Hunter Biden relapsed into alcoholism, and was even attended a state dinner with Obama and French President Francois Hollande in February 2014.
Chris Heinz and Devon Archer, another Rosemont Seneca founder, were also noted as guests at “holiday receptions” in 2009 and 2011.
Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) indicated to the Post these facts raise serious red-flags. “Not everyone gets to meet the Vice President of the United States in the White House. The press should be asking why Hunter Biden’s business associates – like Eric Schwerin – had that privilege and were given access to the Obama White House. This is additional evidence that Joe Biden lied when he said he never discussed Hunter’s foreign business dealings. It’s well past time for the corporate media to demand the truth from Joe Biden. The corruption of Biden Inc. must be exposed.”
Cruz went on to add, “The clear solution is a Special Counsel investigation to fairly investigate the disturbing allegations of Biden family corruption.”
