MSNBC host Tiffany Cross, panel mock white people in ‘Atlanta’ fretting over reparations

An MSNBC panel found themselves in hysterics Saturday over anyone’s individual concern regarding hypothetical reparations after a television show offered a surreal portrayal of the popular social justice objective, calling it a “nightmare scenario” where black people are “going to show up at our house.”

Tim Wise, a white activist and author of “Dispatches from the Race War,” joined MSNBC host Tiffany Cross and political commentator Dr. Jason Johnson on “The Cross Connection” where they previewed the latest episode of the FX series “Atlanta.” In the episode, a liberal white man portrayed by Justin Bartha learns about a lawsuit won against a Tesla executive by a black man who had accused the businessman of enslaving his ancestors, entitling him to reparations.

Cross played a clip where Bartha is told by a co-worker, “It’s cleared the way for personal litigation. Now they can look up and force you to pay the price,” before she explained she was looking up her history to see if she would be free from any debts.

The host then mirthfully asked her guest for his thoughts on the episode and Wise began, “Well, first of all, it is, it is brilliant. It is genius. And as Jason said, you know, it is of the nightmare scenario that my people have when it comes to this, right? It’s this idea that we’re going to have our water bill, our cable bill and, oh God, there’s the black people bill, I totally forgot to pay that one last month.”

The panel laughed as Wise went on, “And so to the extent that it tweaks that kind of bizarre interpretation of what black folks are talking about when they talk about reparations or what it would look like, I think it does its job, right?”

“But what I really do appreciate about the episode is that it demonstrates the way that the intergenerational transmission of advantage and disadvantage is the ghost in the room of the national house. And it haunts us all, right?” the activist argued.

In an interview with Complex, Bartha, who referred to his character as “a little liberal”, described his character as going through the five stages of grief before ultimately killing himself at the end and said, “once white people truly wake up, that’s where you really see the repercussions will start to sink in.”

The actor later stated about the “very complicated” issue, it “would be incredibly difficult to put it into the hands of person-to-person like it is here. But there are certain corporations that are so obviously continuing to benefit off of unpaid labor and slavery, that it seems crazy that it’s not talked about more.”

Ignoring the fact that the government produces no goods and collects its wealth through the taxation of individuals, Wise echoed Bartha’s views and deflected any negative impact this would have on society, saying, “It will be done by the collective. It will be done by the state. It was the state that enshrined enslavement. It was the state that enshrined it and kept it protected by the Constitution. It’s the state that would pay.”

Of course, a California panel on reparations has already demonstrated the near impossibility of obtaining accurate records on the genealogy of descendants from slaves as they make moves toward legislative recommendations, not to satisfy any sincere argument on the matter, but rather to have the best chance of surviving legal challenges.

Still, Wise contends that no individual will be harmed by any such policy, stating, “But I got to talk my people down off a ledge now because this is so well done that white folks are like, ‘See, this is what they’re going to do. They’re going to show up at our house.'”

  1. The only ones who would owe are Democrats. Republican paid their reparations by dying in the fight to end slavery. See: Civil War. Also Republican got the Civil Rights Amendments ratified even against almost universal opposition by Democrats. It was Republican votes that got the 1964 and 1965 Civil Rights Acts passed into law. So Republicans are paid in full.

  2. Are those in charge of this racist, loser idea going to check the geneology of Louisiana, as free blacks there owned more slave than did the whites? The very fact that we are talking about this shows MLK failed, His own people destroyed his dream of living in a society where a man is judged by the content of his character. Blacks in America have made everything about the color of a man’s skin rather than about his character. All streets named after him, his statues and the holiday celebrating his birthday need to be removed, because we do not celebrate losers in America. FJB

    1. And our tax money paid for subsidized housing and many other social programs used mainly by blacks.

  3. I love how a doofus’s like Wise still can’t get it thru his thick skull that the people ARE the state. This collective bullshiitt is code for we take it from whitey and redistribute it according to a bureaucrats interpretation of who gets what….and he’ll decide. These pointey head Libs will decide the order of mankind going forward.

  4. Just be sure all the white folk who died to help free the slaves get the same reparations

  5. Apparently, BLACKS are not capable of actually WORKING it seems.Again, they need a HAND OUT. Affirmative Action/Free Housing/Free Medical/Free Schooling, and FREE PRISON HOUSING are not enough? Always complaining, committing the MAJORITY of CRIMES and using their INFAMOUS Reverend Al RACE CARDS.

  6. Reparations for slaves already happened….it was called, “The Civil War.” People gave their lives to free the slaves; we are the ONLY country in the world to fight for the freedom of slaves.

  7. Americans who deny we have an underclass of all races in America are racists. Yes we have ghettos. Yes our urban ghettos have blacks who live there. But there are other races of people who live in the ghetto too. Many immigrants start out in our poorer neighborhoods whether they came from Vietnam or Somalia or Haiti or Honduras. Americans should not have to pay squat for reparations. Anyone that doesn’t think there are poor whites hasn’t visited a trailer park lately and these parks are all across the USA not just our large cities. All the US taxpayer should be required to provide to its people are Equal Opportunities. Handing out money does not create opportunity without hard work and dedication. Blacks have already received several aids to create opportunity Negro College Fund, Affirmative Action, Enterprise Zones are 3 programs in my life time that helped the Black Community foster opportunity. So let’s just call reparations what blacks are really demanding. A handout based solely on skin color. Can you imagine the squealing blacks would do if they were expected to pay taxes in order for the Feds to handout money for Hispanic reparation? or Korean reparation? or white reparation? We have a lot of poor who need a handout. Is race the way we are expected to pick winners or loosers?

  8. soooo reparations? confusion here…tell me you’re not thinking about paying folks for lost slaves.

  9. If by some strange chance a bill for making reparations becomes law, I think the funding of those reparations should be by voluntary, publicly reported subscription so that the Democrats and other ‘woke’ individuals who gave us this travesty can pay for it with their money, not mine!

  10. Every former slave owner owes every one of his former slaves reparations. Oh…wait…they are all dead, both former slave owners and former slaves. Well…problem solved…ya-think…?!?!?

  11. The thing I don’t get about paying black people these “reparations” is how enriching drug dealers is going to help the black “community?”
