Winsome Sears sets straight Dems on collision course with midterm misery: ‘Children belong to parents’

Instead of changing direction, Democrats often double down on policies that alienate just about everyone, from conservatives to the members of their own party.

When will they learn that kids are off-limits?

Virginia’s Lieutenant Governor Winsome Sears appeared Tuesday on Fox News Channel’s “Fox and Friends,” appearing as baffled as the rest of the nation over a party that refuses to learn from past mistakes. Sears, who won Virginia alongside Governor Glenn Youngkin over the issue of parental rights, highlighted that Democrats will lose if they don’t change their tune…fast.

“If they continue on the same course, they’re going to lose in November, so they better start listening to parents because… children do belong to the parents, not the state,” Sears said.

Matt Wolking, 2021 campaign communications director for Youngkin, said, “It’s the Terry McAuliffe strategy all over again. Now Democrats nationwide are running on the exact same platform. It’s like they saw McAuliffe lose decisively in a state won by ten points and thought, ‘hold my beer.’”

Sears observed, “Ultimately parents want to ensure that their children are learning. That’s the whole thing. Are they learning? If they’re not, something needs to be done. That’s why we were elected last November and that’s the message that we’re carrying, that’s the laws that we’re trying to pass. And in fact, we got two bills through this week.”

Governor Youngkin signed a bill on April 8, 2022, requiring parental notification when sexually explicit content is being used or taught in classrooms.  The bill was a stunning condemnation of former Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe, who vetoed a similar bill during his time in office.

The bill was one of two education-related bills passed on Friday. The second bill addressed the left’s apparent obsession with critical race theory and will require that public schools in Virginia teach practical, academic subjects instead. Even more horrifying for leftists, he is insisting students achieve grade-level proficiency.

“Imagine that this is what we have come to, and by the way; this is not against the rich and the poor because the rich have already made the decisions when it comes to their children,” Sears said.  “If they don’t like what their children are learning, they pick them up and they put them somewhere else.  It is those of us who don’t have the means to move that our children are being subjected to this, and we’re saying ‘no, we’re not having it.’”

When asked why she thinks these tone-deaf oblivious politicians keep advancing a losing agenda, Sears responded, “It’s a curious thing. I don’t know. Maybe they should hire me as a consultant.”
