Texas begins dispatching busses of migrants to US Capitol, feds respond

Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s (R) plan to transport illegal immigrants from the Lone Star state to Washington, D.C. via bus is apparently already making an impact as local officials report that after some busses have been dispatched, “the federal government has stopped dropping migrants in their towns.”

Abbott had announced during a press conference on Wednesday that, as a result of President Biden’s ineffective leadership in securing the southern border and the ending of the expedited deportation measure Title 42 , he and his team had devised a plan to “help” the administration better address the crisis.

Abbott directed the Texas Department of Emergency Management (TDEM) to charter buses and send them to local communities overwhelmed with illegal immigrants to remove them from those areas.

“We are sending them to the United States Capitol, where the Biden administration will be able to more immediately address the needs of the people that they are allowing to come across our border,” Abbott said during the press conference.

Seth Christensen, chief of media and communications for TDEM, spoke with Fox News Digital to express the impact this policy was already having. “From the [Rio Grande Valley] to Terrell County,” he explained, “a large majority of the communities that originally reached out for support through this operation have now said that the federal government has stopped dropping migrants in their towns since the governor’s announcement on Wednesday.”

“Joe Biden has refused to come to the border to see the chaos that he has created by his open border policies,” Abbott told Fox News on Thursday. “So we’re gonna take the border to him.”

“What has been happening so far,” he went on, “is those people will be getting on buses and going to San Antonio or Houston or other places like that, and so I think that they just need longer bus rides.”

Abbott further relayed the “astonishing” figure presented by the Department of Homeland Security that expects “after Title 42 is removed to have as many as 18,000 people come across the border a day.”

“If you calculate that out on an annual basis, that’s gonna be more than 5 million people coming across the border illegally every year,” the governor detailed. “And those will be the ones apprehended. And so, this clearly is unprecedented. It’s a high volume that the United States and states like Texas are ill-equipped to be able to deal with.”

It is for that reason that Abbott has resorted to the measure of shipping the illegal immigrants out of the state.

“In the last 24 hours, TDEM has dispatched buses to areas where communities have expressed concerns about the federal government dropping off migrants and has the capability to send as many as is necessary to fulfill the requests from mayors and country judges,” Christensen reported.

These buses are capable of transporting up to 40 passengers at a time in addition to supplies needed for those individuals. While some have tried to dismiss the plan as a political move because the illegal immigrants have to “volunteer” to board the buses, Abbott explained anything short of their full cooperation would be considered kidnapping and Texas must do what they can because of Biden’s failings.

“The Biden administration has no idea about the chaos it has stoked. You think that Americans are angry about inflation right now?” Abbott asked. “Wait til they see the chaos that’s going to occur on the border because of Biden’s open border policies.”
