Atlantic staff writer Anne Applebaum was ironically asked about Hunter Biden’s laptop-from-hell at Chicago’s”Disinformation and the Erosion of Democracy” conference on Wednesday and proceeded to dismiss the query out of hand, declaring that she did not find the topic relevant or interesting.
University of Chicago student Daniel Schmidt asked the leftist author during the conference if the suppression of the Hunter Biden laptop story could have had an effect on the outcome of the 2020 election. She sneered that it was irrelevant.
Former Obama administration official David Axelrod sat next to the author during the session. He was the one who called on the student during the Q&A. Schmidt is the editor of the school’s conservative/libertarian newspaper “The Chicago Thinker.”
When posing his question to Applebaum, Schmidt reminded her that she wrote a piece for The Atlantic on Oct. 23, 2020, concerning the burgeoning scandal.

“Those who live outside the Fox News bubble and intend to remain there do not, of course, need to learn any of this stuff,” Applebaum posited at the time.
Then he asked her if she and others in the media had responded prematurely to the story given the current status of the scandal.
“Now of course we know a few weeks ago The New York Times confirmed that the content is real,” Schmidt asserted.
“A poll, later after that, found that if voters knew about the content of the laptop, 16% of Joe Biden voters would have acted differently,” he stated. “Do you think the media acted inappropriately when they instantly dismissed Hunter Biden’s laptop as Russian disinformation, and what can we learn from that in ensuring that what we label as disinformation is truly disinformation, and not reality?”
The student should be writing for The Atlantic and Applebaum should return to college. Make sure she takes an ethics course.

That was when Applebaum became dismissive of the topic. She said she did not find the story “interesting” even though it has been verified and has reportedly produced damning evidence of alleged illegal activities by Hunter Biden and possibly by President Joe Biden himself.
“My problem with Hunter Biden’s laptop is, I think it’s totally irrelevant,” she tellingly remarked. “I mean, it’s not whether it’s disinformation… I didn’t think Hunter Biden’s business relationships have anything to do with who should be president of the United States. I don’t find it to be interesting, I mean, that would be my problem with that as a major news story.”
That’s a HELL of an admission.

Influence peddling is so disinteresting!

Totally “disinterested” or totally dismissive? I’m surprised she didn’t parrot the standard reply that it was a homophobic, racist and misogynistic question.

Not only is the story “relevant” and “interesting,” it has exploded into a full-fledged scandal that threatens to suck in the president as a looming indictment reportedly hangs over Hunter Biden’s head.
Following Applebaum’s non-answer, Axelrod gave one of his own which was even more glaring. He refused to answer the question and abruptly ended the panel discussion.
“We’re going to talk about more of this tomorrow in our first panel so stand by. And I think we have run out of time,” he said.
And that she didn’t find it interesting. Oddly… whoops. We are out of time.

The comments by Applebaum hearken back to the suppression of the original story by mainstream media, Twitter, and Facebook.
However, the facts of the case are now surfacing and the suppression of the story is coming undone as The New York Times and The Washington Post both confirmed that the laptop and the resultant emails are real. Other media outlets are now racing to cover the story that Applebaum is still dismissing.
