Tulsi Gabbard stands by FL parental rights bill, says it ‘simply bans woke sexual’ indoctrination in class

Former U.S. Rep. Tulsi Gabbard supports Florida’s Parental Rights in Education law and also implied that it doesn’t go far enough.

According to Gabbard, “Parents should raise their kids, not the government,” an institution that intrusively tries to usurp the rights of moms and dads.

The Hawaii Democrat has increasingly moved in a populist direction and, in so doing, has continued to dissent from her political party’s far-left dogma, which in this instance prompted the activist cohort and their corporate media allies to misleadingly describe the legislation signed into law by Gov. Ron DeSantis as the “don’t say gay” bill.

Gabbard, who ran for president in 2020 and then endorsed Joe Biden after she dropped out, shared a video message on Twitter to her 1.3 million followers in which she sounded like anything but a Democrat in terms of what she said about taxpayer-funded public schools, which are an extension of the government.

“You may have seen in the news recently, or you may be a parent who’s experienced how parental rights are under attack all across the country, as the government tries to usurp parents’ rights and responsibility to raise their own children,” she began.

“Now we should all support the Parental Rights in Education bill that recently passed in Florida, which very simply bans government and government schools from indoctrinating woke sexual values in our schools to a captive audience,” the 2016 Bernie Sanders backer and current podcaster declared.

“A captive that is by law required to attend,” Gabbard continued. “But as I read the legislation, I gotta tell you, I was shocked to learn that it only protects kids from kindergarten till third grade. Third grade? What about 12th grade or not at all? Government has no place in our personal lives, government has no place in our bedrooms. Parents are the ones responsible for raising their kids, and instilling in them a moral foundation, not the government.”

Gabbard went on to say that the identity-politics-obsessed educational bureaucracy has the wrong priorities for the curriculum in government-run schools, something that many concerned parents, whistleblowers, and others, including fair-minded teachers, have discovered and warned about in the last year or so. And the unfortunate results are in.

Watch:

“Now the reality that we are facing in this country is our schools are failing. Nationally, 34 percent of students are below basic reading level in the fourth grade. Twenty-five percent of high school graduates are functionally illiterate. Now I’m confident that if our schools focused on educating our kids, teaching them the fundamentals — things like English, math, science, civics, history — we would see our literacy rates improve and set our young people up for success. They’ll be thinking logically, thinking critically, and thinking for themselves,” she explained.

“This is what our public schools should focus on,” ex-Congresswoman Gabbard concluded.

The politician who declined to run for reelection to the House has also emerged, among other things, as a forceful free-speech, anti-Big-Tech censorship advocate. A Lt. Colonel in the U.S. Army National Guard who served in Iraq, Gabbard has regularly castigated the endless war tendencies of establishment neolibs and neocons and has called instead for non-interventionism.

In response, some of her detractors, without evidence, have accused her of treason.

On Sunday, she tweeted a message to Russian Federation President Vladimir Putin, in which she described the invasion of Ukraine as reprehensible and brutal, and calling for him to withdraw his troops from the neighboring country, which would serve the best interests of the population of both countries.

Gabbard may or may not still harbor political aspirations, so it remains to be seen if there is an end game in this context.

In February, moreover, the ex-Democrat lawmaker, who is a frequent guest on Tucker Carlson’s top-rated Fox News show, delivered a rousing, MAGA-like speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC).
