A beloved 73-year-old grandmother, Linda Frickey, had her arm horrifically ripped off and then was brutally dragged for nearly a block to her death, pleading with four teenage car thieves to let her go after she was carjacked when she left work in New Orleans on Monday.
There were plenty of witnesses to the gruesome murder. The woman evidently got caught in her seat belt as the robbers stole her car, resulting in her arm and clothes being ripped off during the crime. The incident occurred at approximately 1:30 pm on Monday in broad daylight.
Neighbors ran out in the street screaming for the teenagers to stop and heard Frickey’s horrified screams. They ran over to the dying grandmother after her arm was lost and tried to help because she was still breathing. Unfortunately, the ambulance didn’t make it in time. She reportedly never stood a chance at surviving and died at the scene.
“The lady was trying to put something in her vehicle, the guy jumped in and kicked her out and she got caught in the wheel well,” one witness told WWLTV. “I heard screaming, like: ‘You’re-about-to-die screaming’ screaming.”
“It was dragging a lady by the seatbelt outside the car. The door had closed on the seatbelt, and she was stuck in it… I got out of my vehicle screaming: ‘Please stop,’ other neighbors were also screaming,” another witness named Todd Ecker told Fox 8.

Evidently, the teens did stop the SUV for a moment to kick Frickey out but did not check to make sure she was not caught in the seatbelt in the process. In their haste to get away, they gifted the woman a tragic death.
A neighbor named Leanne Mascar rushed to get a sheet to cover Frickey after the accident.
“As soon as I saw her, I screamed. I just started running for her I thought if I could somehow, I don’t know what I could do, but I thought if I could dislodge her from this car… when I looked down her body was already there, and her arm was… It’s just not something you expect to see,” she emotionally stated to Fox 8. “She was laying there naked, and I thought the indignity she just suffered it was already too much.”
Mascar’s husband Mark sat next to Frickey as she passed awaiting the ambulance to arrive.
“I wasn’t, I was angry, I was telling her to hang in there because every time I heard a siren I was hoping and praying it was the ambulance. I kept telling her to hang in there, breathing, her eyes were moving. I’ve never seen something so horrific,” he sadly remarked.

The police found Frickey’s gray SUV 13 blocks from the crime scene. They released surveillance footage of the teenagers hoping that someone would turn them in or provide information on their whereabouts. All four have now been arrested and are facing murder charges. The suspects include a 17-year-old male, a 16-year-old female, and two 15-year-old females. All of them had prior arrests.
The parents of the boy, who was the suspected driver of the stolen SUV, and one of the 15-year-old girls contacted police on Monday to identify their children as those involved. The boy and the 16-year-old girl were taken into custody together at an undisclosed residence.
The 15-year-old whose parents contacted the police voluntarily surrendered to authorities. The other 15-year-old was arrested Tuesday morning. All four will be charged with second-degree murder.
A number of New Orleans residents stated that following the murder they were “buying guns.” They contended that they feel the city is increasingly ruled by “fear” due to rising crime and lawlessness.
Frickey’s family is in shock over their loss. Her sister Jinnylynn Griffin noted on Facebook, “This senseless act affected our family. We lost a loving sister, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. RIP my beautiful sister Linda Frickey, you will forever be missed.”
Kathy Richard, Frickey’s sister-in-law tearfully told WDSU, “She would have helped anyone off the streets. She would have given them the car if they would have just given her the chance to step away.”
