Joy Behar says she’s worried the invasion in Ukraine is going to ruin her trip to Italy

Comedian and television host Joy Behar stunned with her tone-deaf take on the unfolding invasion of Ukraine, revealing her pressing thoughts as Russian forces advanced on their neighbor in Eastern Europe.

The co-host of “The View” sparked criticism Thursday after expressing out loud that she was “scared” about the effects on Western Europe of an all-out war breaking out and how it may thwart her travel plans.

Behar’s lament about being unable to travel to Italy on vacation was made even more stunning as it followed co-host Sunny Hostin’s remarks about the impact of the Ukraine invasion on Europe as millions could be displaced as refugees.

“Estimates are 50,000 Ukrainians will be dead or wounded,” Hostin told viewers, “and that this is going to start a humanitarian crisis, a refugee crisis in Europe. We’re talking about 5 million people that are going to be displaced. It’s heartbreaking to hear what is going to happen.”

Behar concurred that she was worried as well.

“Well, I’m scared of what’s going to happen in Western Europe too,” the 79-year-old said. “You know, you plan a trip. You want to go there. I want to go to Italy for four years and I haven’t been able to make it because of the pandemic.

“And now this,” she added, in reference to the Ukraine invasion. “It’s like, ‘What’s gonna happen there?’”

Though Behar went on to talk of Russian President Vladimir Putin, her travel comments seemed to already be reverberating.

“This guy, he’s a singular sensation in a certain way, you know what I mean?” she said. “I don’t know that he has that much support in his country … and maybe that has to be addressed because we’ve seen this movie before.”

While a handful of social media users defended Behar amid the onslaught of criticism, there was no turning around the collective eye roll on Twitter.

“Did Putin even stop to think how his invasion would affect Joy Behar’s trip to Italy?” the New York Post’s Karol Markowicz snarked.

“The true horror of the worldwide pandemic and Russia invading Ukraine? Joy Behar hasn’t been able to take her trip to Italy,” Barstool Sports’ Kevin Clancy tweeted. “Thoughts and Prayers for Joy. We hope she makes it through this tragedy.”
