Republican senators introduced the “Terminating Reckless and Unnecessary Checks Known to Erode Regular Shipping (TRUCKERS) Act” on Wednesday aimed at eliminating proof of vaccination requirements for commercial truck drivers who are crossing the US border in Canada or Mexico.

The act was introduced by Sens. Marco Rubio (R-FL), Rick Scott (R-FL), Josh Hawley (R-MO), Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), Mike Braun (R-IN), Kevin Cramer (R-ND), John Hoeven (R-ND), Mike Lee (R-UT), and Roger Marshall (R-KS).

The legislation is timely considering American trucker convoys are now heading towards Washington, D.C., to coincide with President Joe Biden’s State of the Union address in March.

“The Biden administration’s decision to impose a vaccine mandate on cross-border truckers transporting goods to and from Americans makes zero sense,” proclaimed Rubio in a press release. “Our bill will put an end to this craziness, help relieve the ongoing supply chain crisis, and restore freedom for North American truckers.”

Scott, whose father was a truck driver, joined Rubio in his sentiments concerning the vaccine mandate situation, asserting that “truck drivers are the backbone of America’s economy.”

“President Biden’s inflation and supply chain crises are devastating so many Americans, especially our poorest families like mine growing up,” he commented. “By pushing these ridiculous mandates, he is only making things worse.”

“Joe Biden would be wise to take note of what’s happening in Canada and see that the top-down, ‘government controls all’ approach doesn’t work. I also urge Canada’s government to drop its ridiculous mandates on foreign drivers. I hope all of my colleagues will work with us to quickly pass this good and urgently needed bill,” Scott urged.

“Right now, every foreign trucker bringing goods into the U.S. has to show proof of vaccination. Think the Biden admin applied that rule to the 2+ MILLION migrants that ILLEGALLY crossed the southern border last year? Nope. Nothing Joe Biden does makes sense. #TRUCKERSAct,” Scott also tweeted out.

Hawley slammed the Biden administration over the trucker vaccine mandate and government overreach, stating, “We’re in the middle of a supply chain crisis and skyrocketing inflation, and Joe Biden’s priority is to shut down truckers bringing much-needed goods and groceries unless they get a vaccine shot. The people that decision will hurt most are American families. This mandate and others like them [sic] must be junked. Quit hurting working people.”

“Truckers and essential workers keep goods flowing and shelves stocked,” Blackburn declared. “COVID-19 vaccine requirements are overreaching and unnecessary. If the Biden administration is that worried about unvaccinated individuals entering into the USA, they should secure the southern border and stop the millions of unvaccinated illegal aliens from flooding into our country. Thank you to Senator Rick Scott for his leadership on this legislation. I’m glad to continue my efforts to protect essential workers.”

“When I ran my business, a third of my employees were truck drivers, so I know firsthand how important they are to our economy and our country,” Braun claimed. “Federal government vaccine mandates are wrong and we should not make our supply chain problems worse by turning away commercial truck drivers temporarily entering the country for business for not showing their vaccination papers.”

“Vaccine mandates for truckers to enter the U.S. from Mexico and Canada are an extreme abuse of power with far-reaching consequences,” Cramer contended. “We’re suffering through a supply chain crisis, and we need every trucker moving every product to every consumer and every place possible. Our bill provides much-needed relief from burdensome vaccine mandates to allow commerce to flow freely throughout North America.”

Rep. Carlos Giménez (R-FL) who characterized Biden’s vaccine mandates as “catastrophic,” will introduce similar legislation in the House of Representatives later this week.

“Starting on Jan. 22, 2022, the Department of Homeland Security will require that non-U.S. individuals entering the United States via land ports of entry or ferry terminals along our Northern and Southern borders be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and be prepared to show related proof of vaccination,” DHS Sec. Alejandro Mayorkas previously announced. “These updated travel requirements reflect the Biden-Harris administration’s commitment to protecting public health while safely facilitating the cross-border trade and travel that is critical to our economy.”

On Wednesday, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau reluctantly lifted the Emergencies Act that was used to put the “Freedom Convoy” protest down, freeze the bank accounts of those who contributed to the truckers, and jail the leaders of the movement. All in the name of vaccine mandates that President Joe Biden and Trudeau had put in place concerning the U.S. border with Canada and truckers.
