New York Magazine journalist Jonathan Chait displayed a vast depth of cluelessness asserting that dining at Washington, D.C. restaurants was preferable to those outside the area due to Mayor Muriel Bowser’s mandated use of vaccine passports.
Following a Washington Times reporter asking Bowser if she’s worried about lost revenue if people go to eat in Northern Virginia restaurants because they don’t have an indoor vaccine mandate like the one in D.C., Chait expressed his laughably uninformed view on the issue.
“It hadn’t hit me until now that this is an aspect of choosing between DC and Arlington, but now that I think about it, it makes DC a vastly preferable option for indoor dining,” Chait tweeted.
“If unvaccinated diners choose to eat in Virginia over DC, and vaccinated diners pick the reverse, that’s going to net out heavily in DC’s favor,” he added.

Bowser’s new COVID mandate orders patrons to show photo proof of identification before they can enter businesses including restaurants. Oddly enough, D.C. does not require photo identification to vote, except in rare instances.
The mandate went into effect on Saturday, Jan. 15 and requires almost all business and entertainment venues to verify that customers are vaccinated against COVID with at least one shot. Patrons over 18 must show photo ID as proof their name matches the one on their vaccine passport that they are required to present when entering the establishment.
“Before patrons can access the indoor portion of the business, a business is required to check the patron’s proof of vaccination,” the D.C. government website explains.
“Remember that starting Saturday you will need these three things before heading out: 1. Proof of vaccination (12 years +), 2. Proof of vaccination and Photo ID (18 years +), 3. Mask,” Bowser tweeted.

Chait is the same journo who just realized days ago that maybe closing New York schools due to the pandemic wasn’t such a hot idea after all.
“Many liberals are complaining that the recent debates over short-term closings are creating a hysterical overreaction from people still angry about the 2020-21 school shutdown,” the liberal pundit stated, according to Fox News. “Perhaps a first step to building trust that we are not planning to repeat a catastrophic mistake is to admit the mistake in the first place.”
“Most progressives aren’t insisting on refighting the school closing wars,” he said. “They just want to quietly move on without anybody admitting anybody did anything wrong.”
“The damage to a generation of children’s social development and educational attainment, and particularly to the social mobility prospects of its most marginalized members, will be irrecoverable,” Chait added.
His epiphany does not seem to have extended to vaccine passports and restaurants, however.
