That’s not the border, Kamala! VP to trek to Honduras to tackle ‘root causes’ of illegal immigration, again

Vice President Kamala Harris has announced she will travel to Honduras for the inauguration of the country’s first female president, Democratic Socialist Xiomara Castro, in a convoluted, expensive, and predictably doomed effort to “address the root causes” of illegal immigration.

“The Vice President’s visit will further the commitment she and President-elect Castro made during their December 10 phone call to deepen the partnership between the United States and Honduras and work together to advance economic growth, combat corruption, and address the root causes of migration,” Harris’ office proclaimed in a statement on Tuesday.

The delegation for Castro’s inauguration includes U.S. Agency for International Development Administrator Samantha Power and California’s Democratic Rep. Raul Ruiz, according to CNN. Diplomats in the delegation will also include Jose Fernandez, who is the undersecretary for economic growth, energy, and the environment at the State Department; Brian Nichols, who is the State Department’s assistant secretary for Western Hemisphere affairs; and Colleen Hoey, who is the charge d’affaires at the U.S. Embassy in Tegucigalpa.

The trip follows an announcement a month ago concerning a deal that would provide $540 million in private investment to Central America. The money is intended to improve living conditions and to slow the tsunami of illegal immigrants coming across the U.S. border. PepsiCo, Cargill, and Parkdale Mills each pledged approximately $150 million towards infrastructure projects that would benefit the region. Existing and expanded investments also came from Mastercard, Microsoft, and Nespresso.

It is not clear when Harris will leave for Honduras or how long she will be there. Castro’s inauguration is slated for January 27. Many feel the vice president has a lot in common with the die-hard leftist.

Harris was tasked with overseeing the border issue by President Biden but has been missing in action on the issue from the onset. The administration contends that includes working with Central American countries to tackle the “root causes” of migration. This is her second trip to Central America’s Northern Triangle.

The vice president has come under intense fire for only visiting the border once last June, when she spent a few hours in El Paso, Texas, before jetting off to her $5 million Los Angeles home. Harris has been branded as the “border czar” who doesn’t visit the border.

During Harris’ visit to the border, she did not actually visit the border but went instead to nearby immigration facilities where she met with migrant girls aged 9-16.

She snarked over the summer in response to critics that she hadn’t been to Europe in her capacity as vice president either, drawing even more criticism from Americans.

Instead of enforcing legal immigration and closing down much of the border while tackling those who cross it illegally, Harris has stated that her strategy is aimed at tackling economic inequality, democratic corruption, and gang violence in Central America in hopes such an effort will decrease the flow of migrants. The countries she is throwing money at have not been able to address those ills and it is unlikely that Harris’ social meddling will have any effect either other than wealth redistribution.

Illegal immigration has exploded at the southern border since Biden and Harris have taken office and it seems to only be getting worse. The most recent data shows that Border Patrol officers encountered 1,734,686 illegal immigrants in 2021 as compared to 458,088 in 2020.

The Honduran trip also coincides with the unveiling of disturbing images last week that showed the deplorable conditions at Arizona border patrol facilities as tens of thousands of migrants were packed together in overcrowded trailers and makeshift mylar tents, according to the Daily Mail.

Yuma Mayor Douglas Nicholls declared a state of emergency on December 9 after 6,000 people were taken into custody by the Border Patrol over five days.

Americans are not impressed with Harris going to the inauguration of a Democratic Socialist rather than tackling illegal immigration:
