Carhartt is a workwear retailer headquartered in Dearborn, Michigan and they have reportedly just announced to their thousands of employees that they don’t care what the Supreme Court has ruled concerning President Biden’s OSHA vaccine mandate, they will require employees to be vaccinated in order to keep their job.
The 133-year old company is one of many that are choosing to plow ahead with the mandate for large employers. Carhartt appeals to blue-collar workers and hipsters and now their decision may negatively impact their bottom line.
An email that was sent out on Friday from CEO Mark Valade to all Carhartt employees informed everyone that its mandatory vaccination policy that went into effect on Jan. 4 would stay in place and require all workers to get the jab by Feb. 15.
“We put workplace safety at the very top of our priority list and the Supreme Court’s recent ruling doesn’t impact that core value,” Valade wrote, according to the Detroit Metro Times. “We, and the medical community, continue to believe vaccines are necessary to ensure a safe working environment for every associate and even perhaps their households. While we appreciate that there may be differing views, workplace safety is an area where we and the union that represents our associates cannot compromise. An unvaccinated workforce is both a people and business risk that our company is unwilling to take.”
Valade is the great-grandson of company founder Hamilton Carhartt, who founded the company in Detroit in 1889. The purported email is still being verified by the Detroit Metro Times.
The letter went viral on Twitter Tuesday with many calling for a boycott of the company. Reaction to the policy was all over the place, both good and bad.
“Wow @Carhartt is subjecting their employees to medical abuse. Very bad look. Definitely should stop buying their products if you do,” BlazeTV podcast host Elijah Schaffer tweeted.

According to a Kentucky TV news station, some Carhartt workers are very displeased with the mandate and protested the company’s vaccination policy back in November.
“I think it should be a choice, they think it should be a choice,” a Carhartt factory worker named Lance Gary told the media outlet. “There’s many that aren’t standing here that think it should be a choice. But Carhartt has made it not our choice, they’ve made it mandatory.”
People sounded off on social media over the announcement by Carhartt:
How about this
If you don't want to get vaccinated and you work at Carhartt
Fucking quit
Fuck 'em

I spend thousands a year on @Carhartt hoodies, jackets & winter gear. Today that ends. I guess I am looking for alternatives. Seriously, this is insane given their target market. I am done purchasing any of their stuff and giving them thousands in free advertising. pic.twitter.com/kyHaNwlO6c

The Carhartt name used to mean rugged fashion. Now it just means coward fascism.

Disappointed carhartt. I have been wearing your jackets for 30 years. Won’t buy another one.

Congratulations on losing your customer base!

Then why are you putting the mandate restriction on your unvaccinated employees when the Supreme Court said no to mandates? I actually was just going to purchase a work vest for my son, not the case. Leaving Carhartt…. terrible to do your employees!

You’re done. A name synonymous with the working class has now entered the progressive market. Time for a new brand for the US outdoorsmen.
