New York Mayor Eric Adams gave a speech declaring that the city is done wallowing in COVID and allowing people to beat it down while proclaiming that a resilient Big Apple will survive and move on from the pandemic.
“When a mayor has swagger, his city has swagger. We’ve allowed people to beat us down so much that all we did was wallow in COVID. That’s all we did and we no longer believed. This is a city of swagger. This is a city of resiliency. And all of these messages out there of what is going to happen… what is going to happen: we’re going to survive,” Adams proclaimed in a public speech at Concord Village Elementary School.
Journalist Glenn Greenwald sent out a tweet promoting the mayor’s attitude, “The first Vegan Mayor of America’s largest city continues to urge liberals to stop cowering over COVID and give up their addiction to fear porn and return to living and to life.”
The only problem with that sentiment is that Adams chose to keep in place outgoing Mayor de Blasio’s suppressive COVID mandates when he was sworn in.

Admas previously slammed de Blasio regarding his announcement concerning a COVID vaccine mandate just before he left office, “I think for the outgoing mayor to announce something like this knowing that the implementation and enforcement would entirely be the responsibility of the next mayor is a real big eff you.”
Adams told viewers of Morning Joe on Monday that it is “time to live with COVID” while discussing plans to keep the city open until the pandemic eventually fades away.
“We have to live with COVID and modify our behavior because if another variant comes out, what are we going to do? We spent $11 trillion on COVID. We don’t have another $11 trillion,” he commented.
“It’s time to live with COVID,” the mayor insisted, “and build systems around COVID until it dissipates and leaves us.”
“Until then, the city has to operate,” Adams concluded.

“COVID is a formidable opponent and it continues to evolve, and we must pivot and evolve with it, but you can’t do it viewing yourself from within the crisis,” Adams told anchor George Stephanopoulos on ABC’s “This Week” Sunday. “We have to see ourselves past the crisis.”
“If we close down our city, it is as dangerous as COVID,” Adams asserted. “That’s what our focus must be. So that proper balance of safety [and] keeping our economy operated is going to allow us to get through.”
He’s also heavily pushing vaccinations.
“I say to those who are not vaccinated: stop it,” Adams declared on Sunday. “It’s time to get vaccinated. It’s time to have the booster shots. You’re endangering yourself and you’re endangering the public and your family as well.”

Adams released two signed orders on Saturday that will continue De Blasio’s state of emergency regulations including mandating vaccinations for private-sector employees and extending proof of vaccination requirements.
He was torched on Twitter for not rescinding the former mayor’s mandates. Adams was dubbed “de Blasio 2.0” for it while his critics bemoaned a lack of change regarding mandates.
The new mayor was dragged on social media:

I want this to be known now.
I watched Eric Adams’ speech and his self ambition is falling over itself. He is talking from both sides of his mouth to appeal to both sides.
This man is bad news for New York. At least with De Blasio we knew what we were getting. pic.twitter.com/uaG6br46bG
