U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) hypocritically fled to sunnier and freer climes in Miami Beach, ringing in the New Year early where she dined with a drink in hand, maskless outside while New York City sees a record number of COVID cases.

Ocasio-Cortez was seen on Thursday at Doraku Sushi and Izakaya, according to the National Review. Despite staunchly supporting mask and vaccine mandates, she fled to a state free of such restrictions.

Republican Governor Ron DeSantis’ office just couldn’t resist and sent a big welcome to the young socialist via Twitter.

“Welcome to Florida, AOC!” they tweeted. “We hope you’re enjoying a taste of freedom here in the Sunshine State thanks to @RonDeSantisFL’s leadership.”

“P.S. We recommend the Rock Shrimp Roll and the Aoki Tai the next time you decide to dine in Miami. Cheers!,” a second tweet added.

Ocasio-Cortez was ruthlessly mocked on social media.

“Hey @AOC tell me you endorse @RonDeSantisFL without telling me you endorse @RonDeSantisFL,” constitutional conservative Shawn Farash snarked.

New York City is seeing a record number of first responders calling out sick heading into New Year’s Eve. Fox News is reporting that over 20 percent of the city’s police officers and 30 percent of paramedics also came down with the “Blue Flu” according to city officials on Thursday, ostensibly in protest of the city’s heavy-handed mandates and firing of those who won’t get the jab.

Incoming New York City Mayor Eric Adams announced on Thursday that he plans to keep Mayor Bill de Blasio’s COVID restrictions in place, including a vaccination mandate for entering local businesses. He will be sworn in on Saturday.

The city is reportedly being deluged with a record number of COVID infections, according to WNBC-TV of New York City.

For the second day in a row, the city broke COVID records with more than 74,000 new cases on Thursday.

Hospitalizations shot up as well, reaching more than 7,300, the media outlet reported. The number of ICU patients in New York rose to more than 1,000 on Thursday, breaking the record for the first time since March.

Ocasio-Cortez represents New York’s 14th congressional district, which covers parts of the Bronx and Queens. While her constituents suffer from the virus and the inherent restrictions, she’s enjoying a sunny getaway in mandate-free DeSantis-land.

The New York Democrat’s actions are especially notable since she viciously attacked Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) for taking a trip to Cancun, Mexico during a disastrous winter storm that left millions without power or water.

“If Sen. Cruz had resigned back in January after helping gin up a violent insurrection that killed several people, he could’ve taken his vacation in peace,” she hatefully tweeted. “Texans should continue to demand his resignation.”

Cruz proceeded to poke at Ocasio-Cortez at the Conservative Political Action Conference in Florida. She responded by saying, “I don’t care what Cruz said at CPAC, but I do care that it appears Texas was just a layover stop for him between Cancun and Orlando to drop a pack of water into someone’s trunk and abandon his constituents again as they get slammed with $16,000 electrical bills.”

Ocasio-Cortez kept up the attacks against Cruz two months later, tweeting, “Ted, this is pretty rich coming from someone who fled their own home (and responsibilities) during an environmental crisis to cross the border and seek refuge in Mexico.”

Many have noted that Florida isn’t Cancun, but it doesn’t change the fact that she ditched the Big Apple as her constituents reportedly die from COVID so she could bask in the Florida sun sipping a drink, chatting with a friend, maskless, outside.

Ocasio-Cortez was roasted on Twitter and people loved the tweet from DeSantis’ office:
