In a CBS News interview reportedly set to air Sunday, Vice President Kamala Harris somewhat admitted that she needs to get out of D.C. more but stopped short of acknowledging that she should be spending far more time along the southern U.S. border.
She offered the mild admission after being asked by CBC’s Margaret Brennan to name her “biggest failure.”
“To not get out of D.C. more,” she promptly replied as she burst into her notorious cackle.
“And I actually mean that sincerely, for a number of reasons. You know, I, we, the president and I, came in, you know, COVID had already started. The pandemic had started. And when we came in, we really couldn’t travel, you know,” she continued.
“A large part of the relationship that he and I have built has been being in this, you know, together in the same office for hours on end, doing Zooms or whatever because we couldn’t get out of D.C.”
Yet as early as March of 2021, only two months in office, she had no issues visiting communities across the country to promote President Joe Biden’s agenda:

She also began making visits back home in Los Angeles as early as February:
“And on issues that are about fighting for anything from voting rights to child care, to one of the issues that I care deeply about, maternal health, being with the people who are directly impacted by this work, listening to them so that they, not some pundit, tells us what their priorities are, I think it’s critically important,” the VP continued.
“People are, people have a right to know and believe that their government actually sees and hears them. And my biggest concern is, I don’t ever want to be in a bubble when it comes to being aware of and in touch with what people need at any given moment in time.”

Not mentioned once in her response was the border, which she’s thus far only visited once — and even then, it was more of a parachuting trip.
As previously reported, she spent just a few hours in El Paso, Texas back in June before heading to Los Angeles for another mini-vacation at her home.
“It was to mark Harris’ fourth trip to Los Angeles since taking office, reports said – versus her lone trip to the border, which came on the 94th day after she took on the role as manager of the Biden administration’s response to the migrant crisis,” Fox News reported at the time.
Her critics, including congressional Republicans, were displeased. Not only by the short duration of her visit but also by her chosen destination.
Critics noted that El Paso wasn’t a problem area anymore because of all the security measures that had been implemented by the Trump administration.
“El Paso Sector has experienced a significant reduction in drug and smuggling activities in areas where the new border wall system was built,” the Department of Homeland Security had confirmed in a press release a couple months earlier.

As of late December, Harris has neither returned to the border nor done anything substantive to stem the tide of illegal aliens flowing into the U.S. But according to her, it’s not her fault.
In an interview back in April, she downplayed her failure at rectifying the problem by claiming that “if this were easy, it would have been handled years ago.”

But it was handled — by the Trump administration, which drastically reduced border crossings through tough executive actions like the Remain In Mexico policy.
And some suspect the administration would have been even more successful had congressional Democrats not obstructed every single effort made by both then-President Donald Trump and congressional Republicans to rein in the crisis.
The Biden administration faces no such obstruction — or at least not from their political opponents on the right — because Republicans staunchly believe in securing the border.
Yet the president’s first move upon taking office in January was to revoke virtually all of his predecessor’s policies. It took months of watching the border deteriorate into madness before the administration finally relented and began reinstating some of Trump’s successful policies. Some say it’s too little, too late.
