‘Cringe alert’: Kamala cackles at her own ‘woke joke’, Naval Academy grads not amused

A green energy joke told by Vice President Kamala Harris to U.S. Naval Academy grads in Annapolis on Friday appeared to fall flat, leading some to mock her on social media.

Leading into the remark, Harris, who became the first woman to give the naval academy commencement speech, told electrical engineering graduates they will take part in the process of converting solar and wind energy into “combat power.”

“You are electrical engineers who will soon help convert solar and wind energy into power, convert solar and wind energy into combat power,” Harris said

“Just ask any Marine today, would she rather carry 20 pounds of batteries or a rolled-up solar panel, and I am positive she will tell you a solar panel, and so would he,” said the VP, going into her trademark cackle following an awkward pause.

Some in the crowd of 1,084 graduates and family could be heard alternating cheering and groaning.

“Cringe Alert,” noted Benny Johnson, host of “The Benny Report” at Newsmax TV. “Kamala Harris tells woke joke about a female Marine at the Navy Academy – IT BOMBS. Cadets groan as Kamala cackles awkwardly alone onstage. Kamala also told the cadets to use ‘wind energy’ for ‘combat power.’ The Biden humiliation of our Military continues.”

Kim Klacik, a former GOP congressional candidate from Maryland and president of Red Resistance, simply responded, “wtf”.

Conservative pundit and Fox Nation host David Webb noted, “If you have to cackle at your own joke, it’s not that funny.”

Other social media users noted that batteries are still required to store solar power gathered by the panels.

Harris touched on climate change during her speech, as well as other threats including cybersecurity amid the waning coronavirus pandemic.

“A deadly pandemic can spread throughout the globe in just a matter of months. A gang of hackers can disrupt the fuel supply of a whole seaboard. One country’s carbon emissions can threaten the sustainability of the whole earth,” she said.

“The challenge before us now is how to mount a modern defense to these modern threats,” she added.

She went on to reference the ransomware attack against Colonial Pipeline earlier this month that led to a week-long shutdown, fuel shortages and gas lines a day after Microsoft said Russian hackers took aim at another government agency.

“The challenge before us now is how to mount a modern defense to these modern threats,” said Harris. “The ransomware attack by criminal hackers earlier this month — well, that was a warning shot. In fact, there have been many warning shots. So we must defend our nation against these threats.”

Harris also gave a shout-out to Midshipman Sydney Barber, the first black female to serve as a brigade commander at the 175-year-old institution, where she oversaw some 4,000 students.

“My ceremonial office was once occupied by the Secretary of the Navy, and displayed there, I have placed the shoulder boards of your brigade commander, Midshipman Sydney Barber,” Harris said.
