Miranda Devine: VP Harris ‘all about frivolity,’ won’t talk border crisis but will go on about her office décor

Granted the rare opportunity this week to interview supposed feminist Vice President Kamala Harris about issues of importance, the San Francisco Chronicle decided to ask her a thousand and one questions about interior decorating instead.

The result was a 500-word report in the Chronicle’s “Politics” section dripping with praise for the female vice president’s alleged taste in interior decorating.

Speaking about this “report” late Tuesday on Fox News’ “Tucker Carlson Tonight,” both host Tucker Carlson and guest Miranda Devine, a conservative columnist, were somewhat amused. But they were also certainly annoyed.

While it’s true that media sycophancy is always to be expected during a Democrat administration, this seemed like a tad much, especially at a time when the nation is suffering from a rash of different calamities.

“You know, it’s pretty rare to get a one-on-one interview with Kamala Harris, and the San Francisco Chronicle, to their great credit, managed to score one. But they didn’t ask her apparently about the border crisis, about the two million illegal migrants that have come over under her aegis,” Devine said to Carlson.

“This is supposed to be something she’s fixing. Apparently, there was nothing to talk about that,” the columnist added, referencing the fact that Harris was assigned months ago to resolve the still-ongoing border crisis.

And indeed, despite the Chronicle’s piece being published in the “Politics” section, it contained nothing about the vice president’s political performance — which, according to public perception, has been exceptionally poor.

“It was all about, you know, the shade of blue that she’d repainted the walls. She’s replaced apparently some patterned couches with some pristine white ones. And she also, you know, she has a lot of artwork on her walls, and so the San Francisco Chronicle went into great detail telling us all about, you know, there’s a painting called ‘White Daisy Rhapsody’ behind her desk,” Devine said mockingly.

FYI, the Chronicle is facing this same sort of backlash on Twitter:

The irony wasn’t lost on Carlson, who responded by noting that Harris is supposed to be a feminist icon who’s “breaking glass ceilings.” And yet the media are treating her like a housewife.

“She’s this feminist leader, she’s breaking glass ceilings, she’s inspiring America’s women … and yet the one interview she gives is about interior decorating,” he said.

“Yeah, it’s pretty sexist really when you think about it,” Devine promptly replied.

The sexism is even more offensive when you factor in the media’s habit of accusing anyone who criticizes the vice president of being a “sexist.” To them, it’s sexism to level criticism based on Harris’s performance as vice president, but it’s not sexism to treat the VP like a housewife. Make that make sense.

Note that this isn’t the first time the sycophantic press has treated Harris like this. During the 2020 election, they literally went clothing shopping with her. And last spring, they fawned over her knitting and fashion.

But again, if you note that she’s failing at the job that she was elected to perform, that makes you a sexist in their eyes. So, apparently, does even just debating her in a presidential debate:

Harris enjoys playing the gender card herself. According to Devine, in fact, based on the VP’s past complaints, she “should be up in arms” over the Chronicle’s treatment of her. But she’s not, and there’s a clear reason why.

The truth is, Devine explained, that the vice president is “all about trivia and frivolity, and she never wants to talk about anything serious like the border — no plan to visit, no plan to fix it.” And thanks to a sycophantic media, she doesn’t have to.

Note that the Chronicle’s report was published only days after The Washington Post columnist Dana Milbank claimed that the establishment press is tougher on President Joe Biden and his administration, including Harris, than they were on the Trump administration.

FYI, not even first lady Melania Trump — a former model — ever got the sort of coverage that Harris, America’s ostensible vice president, seems to have constantly benefited from.
