As the investigation into disgraced former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo drags on, his brother Chris Cuomo’s fate hangs in the balance at CNN after private texts were revealed that show he used media sources to dig up information on his brother’s accusers.

Exhibits and transcripts from the New York Attorney General’s investigation reportedly show Chris Cuomo was deeply involved in his brother’s affairs and strategy while he was under scrutiny for sexual harassment.

The CNN anchor evidently told the governor’s staff that a close friend of his spoke with actor Alec Baldwin to encourage him to post a rant on Instagram against “cancel culture.” The video was designed to act as a defense of Andrew Cuomo.

“My friend asked him to do it,” Chris texted to Andrew’s former top aide Melissa DeRosa. “Very close to him.”

Chris Cuomo testified that he urged Baldwin to not get involved.

“I know Alec Baldwin. So does Andrew. I have a very good friend who is named here, who called me said, ‘Alec wants to talk about cancel culture or political correctness.’ I asked him not to. I said, ‘Tell him to stay out of it. It’s not necessary.’ He said, ‘Well, he’s going to do it. And I think it’s a good idea for him to do it. He wants to talk about these things,’” Cuomo stated in testimony for the investigation.

The exchange between Cuomo, DeRosa, and Baldwin was just one example of the interactions that reportedly occurred between him and his brother’s former top aide. He also suggested that they use damage control statements to help Andrew Cuomo.

“Please let me help with the prep,” Cuomo begged DeRosa in another message.

When a report from the Albany Times-Union on March 9 broke the story of Andrew Cuomo’s 6th accuser, Chris Cuomo angrily confronted DeRosa.

“Why didnt you tell him abt potential ATU intv with 6?” Chris asked.

“I asked u not to say anything until I talked to him,” DeRosa responded.

“That was a day ago,” Cuomo snapped. “Stop hiding shit.”

The CNN icon also admitted that he had asked other journalists about additional accusers coming forward. In a text, DeRosa told him that there was a “Rumor going around from politico 1-2 more ppl coming out tomorrow.”

“Can u check your sources?” DeRosa asked Chris Cuomo.

He replied “on it,” and then, about 40 minutes later, texted, “No one has heard that yet.”

DeRosa also asked Chris Cuomo on March 9 about a report that she thought The New Yorker’s Ronan Farrow was getting ready to publish. Four days later, Cuomo texted her, “If ronan has nothing better than [former Andrew Cuomo aide and accuser Lindsey Boylan], thats a great sign.”

Cuomo evidently wanted to limit his brother’s exposure to people and told DeRosa she should tighten control of the former governor’s inner circle. He wanted to be included in that group along with former Pete Buttigieg campaign manager Lis Smith and public relations specialist Jeffrey Pollock.

“You need to trust me lis and jeff more,” he wrote. “Not these other people. We are making mistakes we cant afford.”

“Did you reach out to anyone…to find out if there might be any other complainants?” Jennifer Kennedy Park, who was one of the investigators, asked Chris Cuomo, according to the transcript.

He replied “yes,” and when Park asked who that was, he remarked, “I would reach out to sources, other journalists, to see if they had heard of anybody else coming out.”

On March 12, Chris Cuomo sent a text message to DeRosa that contained a written statement for his brother.

“I will not resign, I cannot resign. I understand the political pressure I understand the stakes of political warfare, and that’s what this is … And I understand the conformity that can be forced by cancel culture,” the statement contended at the time.

It was previously revealed that Chris Cuomo had been involved in strategy calls with his brother. He would later advise him to resign.

Cuomo’s admission about using media sources for his brother contradicts what he told CNN viewers in August when he asserted, “I never made calls to the press about my brother’s situation.”

He also admitted to investigators that he provided the governor’s office with advice on his brother’s messaging concerning his handling of the pandemic.

“The thousands of pages of additional transcripts and exhibits that were released today by the NY Attorney General deserve a thorough review and consideration,” CNN commented in a statement that was issued on Monday. “We will be having conversations and seeking additional clarity about their significance as they relate to CNN over the next several days.”

While CNN’s response is lukewarm at best, many are now ratcheting up the pressure for Chris Cuomo to be fired by the network.

“If this story is accurate, it describes a series of shocking ethical breaches — fireable offenses at any other news outlet,” Rolling Stone editor-in-chief Noah Schachtman tweeted.

“Just to be clear, if anyone else on CNN’s roster did this, they’d not only be fired but blacklisted from journalism period,” MSNBC columnist Eric Michael Garcia stated.

“It’s hard to imagine any news executive keeping Chris Cuomo on staff after today’s revelations. Then again, as CNN likes to say, ‘THIS is CNN,’” Columbia Journalism School professor Bill Grueskin remarked.

And many more voices want Chris Cuomo gone but seriously doubt it will happen:
