Washington Post columnist Gene Weingarten took to Twitter asking a ‘demented’ and elitist question on whether the unvaccinated should be prosecuted since they won’t willingly comply with overreaching vaccine mandates.
“Is there a point at which the “unvaccinated” need to be prosecuted?” Weingarten tweeted.
He was mercilessly slammed on social media after that for suggesting the leftist viewpoint that anyone who will not submit to getting the COVID vaccine must be dealt with.
Journalist Glenn Greenwald hit back with a biting response and warning, “This is demented beyond words, but as I wrote yesterday, a punitive and sadistic desire to see people imprisoned who dissent from their worldview is an increasingly central and defining feature of American liberalism.”

TV personality John Cardillo was very blunt in response to the leftist columnist, “These lunatics want you in prison or dead. Too many on the right still think compromise is an option.”

Investigative reporter at the Washington Free Beacon Chuck Ross tweeted, “This is the WaPo columnist who caused a media firestorm for criticizing Indian food. Doubt we’ll hear nearly as much about this crazy comment.”

— Chuck Ross (@ChuckRossDC) November 12, 2021
Ross is referring to an August 19 piece entitled “You can’t make me eat these foods,” where Weingarten named a number of foods he would not eat such as Old Bay seasoning, hazelnuts, and anchovies, among others. Regarding Indian food, he wrote that “If you like Indian curries, yay, you like Indian food!”
“I don’t get it, as a culinary principle,” he remarked. “It is as though the French passed a law requiring every dish to be slathered in smashed, pureed snails.”
The left proceeded to be outraged over his pretty much irrelevant statements and Weingarten eventually groveled and apologized for it.
From start to finish plus the illo, the column was about what a whining infantile ignorant d—head I am. I should have named a single Indian dish, not the whole cuisine, & I do see how that broad-brush was insulting. Apologies.(Also, yes, curries are spice blends, not spices.)

The above tweets taking appropriate aim at Weingarten’s daydream are just the appetizer for the buffet of bashing that Weingarten dished out for himself on social media.
His take on punishing those who choose not to get vaccinated is mainstream on the left. It equates to forcing teachers, police officers, firefighters, nurses and those on the pandemic frontline to get vaccinated even if they don’t want to. They were heroes all the way through the pandemic and now the left treats them like pariahs.
The pummeling on social media was impressive:

For what offense? Remember that you would have to prove harm to someone, not merely assert it. At present the argument that unvaccinated people spread Covid-19 more than the vaccinated doesn't seem to be supported by enough evidence to justify a prosecution. https://t.co/SFXwBXP9hV
