Following intense backlash over actor Chris Pratt’s loving birthday tribute to his wife Katherine Schwarzenegger, where he thanked her for giving him “a gorgeous healthy daughter,” his mother-in-law journalist Maria Shriver came to his defense and told him “rise above the noise.”
“I want to remind you today what a good man you are and what a great father you are to jack and lyla… what a great husband you are to Katherine… what a great son-in-law you are to me and what a great sense of humor you have,” wrote Shriver in the comments of Pratt’s Instagram post. “Rise above the noise. Your family loves you. What a beautiful life. I’m proud of you.”
Pratt found himself bombarded by those taking offense to the actor not mentioning his 9-year-old son Jack with ex-wife Anna Faris. The “Parks and Recreation” actor was married to Faris, 44, from 2009-2018. The actress is now married to cinematographer Michael Barrett. Jack was born premature and has suffered health issues over the years but is doing well. Shriver, 66, was quick to give him encouragement since he found himself dejected over the attacks.
Pratt, who is 42, married Schwarzenegger, who is now 31, in 2019, a year or so after they began dating. Their daughter was born in August of 2020.
Pratt’s heart-warming post read, “Guys. For real. Look how she’s looking at me! I mean. Find you somebody that looks at you like that!! You know!?”
“We met in church. She’s given me an amazing life, a gorgeous healthy daughter, she chews so loudly that sometimes I put in my earbuds to drown it out, but that’s love!” he continued. “She helps me with everything. In return, periodically, I open a jar of pickles. That’s the trade.”
“Her heart is pure and it belongs to me. My greatest treasure right next to my Ken Griffey Jr Upper Deck Rookie card. Which if you know, you know is saying a lot,” Pratt added.
“It’s her birthday in about 6 weeks. So if I don’t get her anything, I’ll tell her to look back on this post. Love you honey,” he concluded.

The Guardians of The Galaxy actor was called “sexist,” “gross,” and “ableist” by those looking for an excuse to hate for his sending a loving message to his wife six weeks before her birthday. They outrageously claimed that he referred to his wife as a possession because he called her his “greatest treasure” and that he was deriding his first-born child.
Then his critics really came unglued because he referred to their one-year-old as a “gorgeous, healthy daughter,” which they twisted into meaning he was ashamed of his son. Nothing could have been further from the truth.
Shriver initially commented on the original post, stating, “This is so sweet now show us how you look at her!!” Patt’s wife also posted the tribute to her Instagram storyline.
The former First Lady of California and longtime friend to Oprah Winfrey heatedly defended Pratt. Others chimed in trying to bolster Pratt’s morale as well including Terry Crews, Billy Bush, Jason Kennedy, and former Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard.
Pratt was despondent over the attacks and posted a series of Instagram Stories where he described feeling “upset and depressed.”
“I went to bed last night really kind of upset and depressed,” Pratt remarked. “And I woke up feeling crappy and I didn’t want to work out.”
“I knew though that if I put on my Christian music playlist, and I got out of the woods and ran that I’d feel better, but I just didn’t want to,” he continued. “And I did it anyways and, gosh, was I right. It felt amazing. I got out of the woods, got my blood pumping.”
“That moment,” he said pondering his actions, “it really captured me and so I just want to say, all glory to God.”
“Get some exercise, maybe listen to some good worship music and or maybe get the word in because it really helped me this morning,” Pratt concluded.
