One of the biggest winners in the passage of Biden’s massive $1.2 trillion infrastructure bill will be New York state which could see more than $170 billion in funds from the legislation to revamp roads, airports, water, mass transit, and rail transport.

There will also be money for faster ferries, the completion of a high-occupancy vehicles (HOV) lane on the Staten Island Expressway, and the upgrade of the city sewer system to address flooding.

The bill was passed by the Senate last August but finally made its way through the House of Representatives just before midnight on Friday with the help of 13 Republicans who broke rank to pass the key component of Biden’s Build Back Better agenda. The bill was stalled for months as progressive and moderate Democrats fought over the details. Progressives specifically wanted to tie the much larger social spending package to the passage of the infrastructure bill but they finally relented.

New York’s spending spree is about to commence in earnest at the expense of American taxpayers while plunging a massively debt-ridden nation even further into the hole.

The breakdown is as follows:

Highways: $12.5 billion

  • $11.5 billion for roads and highways.
  • $1.9 billion for bridge repairs.
  • $142 million for electric vehicle charging infrastructure.

Airports: nearly $1 billion

  • JFK — $294,682,575.
  • LGA — $ 150,008,970.
  • Long Island MacArthur — $21,595,630.

Water: $90 billion

  • $14.7 billion for the EPA’s Drinking Water State Revolving Fund.
  • $14.7 billion for the EPA’s Clean Water State Revolving Funds.
  • $55.4 billion in supplemental emergency appropriations.

Mass Transit: $9.8 billion

  • $9.8 billion for clean buses and mass transit.

Rail: $58 billion

  • $22 billion for Amtrak improvements, including the Gateway tunnel project under the Hudson River.
  • $24 billion for Northeast Corridor modernization.
  • $12 billion for intercity passenger rail, which includes high-speed rail.

Republicans supporting the bank-breaking legislation included New York Reps. John Katko, Tom Reed, Nicole Malliotakis, and Andrew Garbarino.

Six Democrats voted against the bill. Those included Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Jamaal Bowman from New York.

The entire progressive “Squad” led by Ocasio-Cortez voted against the bill. That includes Reps. Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, Rashida Tlaib of Michigan, Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts, and Cori Bush of Missouri

“I proudly voted for the bipartisan infrastructure package that will improve the safety and prosperity of communities across America and make the necessary improvements to bring our infrastructure into the 21st century,” Rep. Nicole Malliotakis (R-NY) commented after the vote.

“I was proud to help negotiate and help pass a once in a generation bipartisan infrastructure bill that will be delivered to President Biden’s desk,” stated Rep. Tom Suozzi (D-NY).

“This bold legislation will actually help real people address some of the real problems that they face. A major infrastructure bill has eluded the past four presidents, and we finally got it done,” he remarked.

Friday’s compromise on the bill came after a pledge was made by moderate House Democrats to consider the larger bill if the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office determines it does not increase the federal budget deficit. Negotiations for the pending Build Back Better legislation should be decided by mid-November.

“The bill was mostly clean, we went through it,” claimed one New York House GOP staffer who ignored his colleagues biting criticism and the impending backlash for betraying his party. “But now it’s up to the city and state to allocate the money appropriately,” the staffer asserted, according to the New York Post.

Biden was all smiles Saturday morning after the passage of his bill while most Americans cringed.

“Finally it’s Infrastructure week,” he stated. “I’m so happy to say that.”

“This is a once-in-a-generation investment that will create millions of jobs and puts us on a path to win the 21st century,” Biden proclaimed. “This is a blue-collar blueprint to rebuild America.”
