With the hyperbolic and playful language often associated with his dad, Donald Trump Jr. satirically thanked The Washington Post for “the greatest correction in the history of journalism.”
Trump Jr.’s metaphorical victory lap shared with his seven million Twitter followers came as the liberal news outlet admitted that it made an error in a story that referenced the “Let’s go Brandon” chant that has triggered so many on the left.
Conservative influencer Arthur Schwartz spotted the goof in the Post’s reporting, which prompted Trump to demand a retraction/correction, which was eventually forthcoming.
In the original story which lamented that “Biden’s critics hurl increasingly vulgar taunts,” the Jeff Bezos-owned publication that typically cheerleads for Democrats wrote the following — without evidence, as it turns out:
The former president’s son, Donald Trump Jr., has repeatedly promoted the meme, and the original chant, on his social media feeds. At a speech in Georgia, he took the state after the crowd had been chanting, “USA! USA!” and roared, “There’s a couple other chants I’ve been hearing going around. Have you heard the other one that’s been going around?” The crowd took the cue and broke into cries of “Let’s go Brandon.’
Schwartz took to Twitter to provide the Post, in no uncertain terms, with a fact-check about what originally occurred at Alabama’s Talladega Superspeedway:
“The Don Jr speech that you reference here took place in Georgia on September 22, 2021. The “Let’s go Brandon” chant started after an October 2, 2021 event at Talladega. When are you going to correct your garbage story?

The Lets go Brandon chant became instantly popular with critics of the incumbent president, especially during sports events, after an NBC Sports reporter appeared to misunderstand what was being shouted in the stands following the NASCAR race when she was interviewing the winner, Brandon Brown.
The crowd was chanting “F**k Joe Biden,” but she apparently mistook it for “Let’s go Brandon!”

At the end of the article, the pro-Biden Post inserted an update:
Correction: A previous version of this article incorrectly said a crowd broke into a “Let’s go Brandon” chant during a Donald Trump Jr. speech in Georgia. The crowd broke into a “F— Joe Biden!” chant at that speech in September. The error, which was inserted by an editor, has been corrected.
The correction apparently was met with the social media star’s approval:

The hand-wringing Post article also claimed that “The current eruption of anti-Biden signs and chants, however, is on another level, far more vulgar and widespread” than under previous presidents.
Former Trump administration officials weighed in the Post’s miscue.
“BOOM @washingtonpost forced to admit they lied and covered up chants of “F*@k Joe Biden,” Sean Spicer tweeted.
“Name the anonymous editor that inserted the fake news into the story. Democracy dies in the darkness!,” Ric Grenell quipped on the platform, turning the paper’s self-serving motto back on itself.
