Chicago mayor Lightfoot boldly violates her own mask mandate at WNBA game; rubs it in your face

Democratic officials across the country continue to make it clear, intentional or not, that while they are quick to lay down rules for others, those rules do not apply to them. It’s almost as if they are flaunting the maddening hypocrisy.

Chicago’s embattled Mayor Lori Lightfoot was not only seen blatantly ignoring her own city’s mask rules while attending a WNBA basketball game at Wintrust Arena Sunday night, but the Democrat would also take to Twitter to flaunt her defiance — well, at least those who manage her official Twitter page did.

On Aug. 17,  the Chicago Department of Public Health announced that regardless of vaccination status a face mask mandate was being re-instated for all indoor public settings, and that masks were mandatory in “congregate settings.”

“What a moment. Congrats champs! A first but not the last for [Chicago Sky],” a tweet read for the mayor’s account, featuring a photo of Lightfoot standing in the midst of the crowd without a face mask while everyone around her has one on.

Chicago won its first WNBA title Sunday with a 80-74 win over the Phoenix Mercury and Lightfoot, who is a lesbian, attended the game with partner Amy Eshleman, who is behind the mayor wearing a mask.

Adding to the hypocrisy, not only does Chicago have a mask mandate in place, so too does the entire state. Gov. J.B. Pritzker, also a Democrat, mandated that all Illinois residents are required to wear masks indoors, regardless of vaccination status.

“Beginning on Monday, August 30, 2021, all individuals in Illinois who are age two or over and able to medically tolerate a face covering (a mask or cloth face covering) shall be required to cover their nose and mouth with a face covering when in an indoor public place.  Illinoisans should also consider wearing a mask in crowded outdoor settings and for activities that involve close contact with others who are not fully vaccinated,” the executive order reads.

Perhaps, Lightfoot was taking her lead from President Joe Biden, who was seen walking around mask-less with first lady Jill Biden in the lavish Washington, D.C. restaurant Fiola Mare, despite a district-wide mask mandate requiring that masks be worn indoors. The adoring media was too busy giggling over the White House describing the evening as a “date night,” to take notice of Biden flaunting the mandate.

When the Chicago mayor was called out online, blue-check liberals were only too happy to run interference for her as seen below — the only problem with the defense that she “pushed it down” for a photograph is that there does not appear to be a mask around Lightfoot’s neck in the image.

The stark contrast of Lightfoot’s bare face standing out in the crowd was impossible to miss, as was made clear on social media. Here’s a sampling of responses to the story from Twitter:
