‘Keeps getting better’: Turns out, VP Harris’ roundly mocked NASA video featured child actors

Vice President Kamala Harris released her cringe-worthy first installment in a series of NASA videos replete with child actors who auditioned for their parts in the project.

Five teenagers appeared in the video while Harris gushed and talked down to them. Trevor Bernardino, who is a 13-year-old actor from Carmel, California, submitted a monologue discussing something he was passionate about and three questions he would ask a world leader for his audition, according to KSBW TV. He was then interviewed by the production director.

“And then after that, like a week later, my agent called me, and he’s like, ‘Hey Trevor, you booked it,’” the teenager recalled. He didn’t learn until the day he flew out that he would be acting out his part with Vice President Kamala Harris. She now leads the National Space Council. The producers wanted it to be a surprise.

“All five of them are actors,” Bernardino’s father, Carlo, said during an interview with the Washington Examiner on Monday.

“He’s a child actor — he’s been trying to do this type of thing for a while. And so he has a manager and an agent in LA and they send him castings,” Bernardino stated. “This was a casting call, a very specific one where he had to write essentially a monologue about what he’s really passionate about and he wrote a monologue about the environment.”

“The producer of the series came back to him and asked him to write three questions that he’d ask a very important person … after that, he had a live Zoom interview with the producer of the series and then he got the part,” Trevor’s father said.

“It was pitched to my son and us as a pilot,” the father remarked. Whether it will go into distribution will “depend on the reaction and what the producers want to do — our hope is that it gets picked up.”

“The most exciting part was definitely meeting Vice President Harris. There’s nothing that can top that. Like honestly, she just sat us down. She’s super charismatic. She’s everything that I ever thought of her, plus more,” Bernardino claimed. “She made me feel like one of her peers, and at the time, I felt super important. I was talking to her face to face.”

Bernardino claimed that the response had been “eye-opening” for him. He said that “a lot of people love it,” but others are “torching it, and these are just a bunch of kids.”

“They’re trying to bring attention to NASA National Science Week,” Bernardino added.

The video was roundly mocked on social media where many critics believed it appeared fake, overacted, and scripted.

“If you go to the YouTube link, what’s interesting is I think the producers anticipated this — there’s no comment [section], so you can’t [add] a comment, and if you look at the thumbs up and thumbs down, there’s actually more thumbs down, which is a shame, because I think this is a great thing to draw attention to the space program,” he noted.

The other actors included in the video are Derrick Brooks II, Emily Kim, Zhoriel Tapo, and Sydney Schmooke. One of the girls reportedly starred in a video with Michelle Obama. Tapo interviewed Michelle Obama earlier this year, according to KATC.

The “Get Curious” series was announced by YouTube Originals last week. Its focus is getting children interested in space and NASA. The timing for the release was during World Space Week. It was filmed last August while Afghanistan fell to the Taliban and thousands illegally streamed across the U.S. southern border. The children were staged as meeting Harris at the Naval Observatory. Prior to the meeting, NASA astronaut Shane Kimbrough “beams” down from the International Space Station to meet with the children and then takes them on a scavenger hunt to locate tools to build a telescope.

“I am so so so excited this project is out!” wrote Emily Keller, a YouTube executive overseeing progressive civics content partnerships. Non-coincidentally, she was also the Democratic National Committee’s social media director.

“Just when you thought the most fake human being in the history of the world couldn’t get any more phony there’s this… Her commitment to cringe is truly impressive! Kamala Harris hired child actors to be part of her widely-mocked NASA space video,” Donald Trump Jr. snarked on Twitter.

Other conservatives mocked Harris and the video endlessly:
