Priorities! Newsom makes gender-neutral toy aisles the law for retailers in California

Gov. Newsom forces large retailers in California to go woke with gender-neutral toy aisles

California Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom continued his radical progressive moves by mandating that large retailers with more than 500 employees must provide a gender-neutral aisle for children’s toys.

The new law, which Newsom signed on Saturday, requires large stores to maintain a gender-neutral section or area with children’s items and toys. Stores must display “a reasonable selection” of items “regardless of whether they have been traditionally marketed for either girls or for boys.” It does not apply to clothes but it does apply to hygiene and teething products. It does not ban items that have always been aimed at boys or girls.

Democratic Assemblyman Evan Low from San Jose introduced the woke law. It goes into effect on Jan. 1, 2024, in California. First violations will be subject to a civil penalty of $250. Each violation after that will be fined $500.

“We need to stop stigmatizing what’s acceptable for certain genders and just let kids be kids,” Low blustered, according to the Associated Press. “My hope is this bill encourages more businesses across California and the U.S. to avoid reinforcing harmful and outdated stereotypes.”

Low claims he was inspired by the 10-year-old daughter of one of his staffers, who asked her mom why some things in stores were “off-limits” to her because she was a girl.

He said he was “incredibly grateful” that Newsom signed the bill. The state Legislature had previously attempted to pass similar legislation but was unsuccessful in 2019 and 2020. Now that Newsom has survived his recall, he’s finally pushing it through.

Conservatives have condemned the bill, contending that the government should not dictate how parents shop for their children.

LGBTQ advocates have asserted that marketing methods utilizing pink and blue hues “pressure children to conform to gender stereotypes.”

The Consumer Federation of California threw its support behind the law.

“Keeping similar items that are traditionally marketed either for girls or for boys separated makes it more difficult for the consumer to compare the products and incorrectly implies that their use by one gender is inappropriate,” the group declared, according to the Sacramento Bee.

There was no comment from Newsom as he signed the bill into law on Saturday with a raft of other woke legislation. It was the final action of the legislative session. California becomes the first state in the nation to enact such a law.

Target Corp. announced that its 1,915 stores across the nation would no longer use some gender-based signs in 2015. and Newsom’s law follows a similar path statewide.

The consensus among many is that Newsom and California have gone off the radical deep-end:
