Peter Doocy pushes back when F&F co-host calls Psaki’s behavior ‘condescending and defensive’

Fox News correspondent Peter Doocy demurred when “Fox & Friends” co-host Will Cain questioned him on White House press secretary Jen Psaki’s “condescending and defensive” answer over the president visiting the border.

“So I asked her on Friday why he has never been. And she kind of shot it back to me, answering a question with a question, why or what do you want him to do at the border? And I was just asking, like, why is this the one thing that he thinks he can govern better than here than going to see it for himself, and we did not get a firm answer,” Doocy stated concerning his question to Psaki over why President Joe Biden has never visited the southern border.

“It was an incredibly condescending and defensive answer she gave you, ‘what would you expect him to do, Peter, at the border?’” Cain asked.

“I wouldn’t necessarily say that,” Doocy slightly hedged, to which Cain replied, “I would.”

“We are not getting information. Like, there are people across the country but especially in the border sectors who want to know why is it that when there is a crisis, for example, like a hurricane or a wildfire and the president will go show up to find out what the people on the ground need. And he will do that, but not this,” Doocy further explained.

Co-host Steve Doocy remarked, “You are right. Peter, why did they send Kamala Harris to El Paso to see it with her own eyes? Why did, as a senator why did Joe Biden go to Iraq or Afghanistan? To see it with his own two eyes. But apparently, he doesn’t need to see this with his own two eyes.”

Doocy ended the segment by vowing to continue putting Psaki and the Biden administration on the hot seat. “We’ll have a couple bites at the apple this week,” he promised, “so we’ll get to the bottom of it.”

Doocy’s answers follow a tense exchange with Psaki where he asked her a week ago, “Why hasn’t President Biden ever visited the southern border?”

“What would you like him to do at the southern border? And what impact do you think that would have on the policies?” Psaki sarcastically asked Doocy.

“Why doesn’t he want to go?” he replied, not giving any leeway regarding the remark

“I don’t think it’s an issue of wanting to go; I think it’s an issue of what’s most constructive to address what we see as a challenging situation at the border and a broken immigration system,” Psaki defensively asserted.

“And his view is [that] the most constructive role we can play is by helping to push immigration reform forward, helping reform the broken policies of the last several years, and listening to his team of advisors, who have been to the border multiple times, about what the path forward should look like,” she added, once again subtly blaming former President Trump for Biden’s catastrophic handling of the border crisis.

While the media seeks to portray the adversarial relationship between Doocy and Psaki as one of begrudging mutual respect, question and answer exchanges during White House press briefings seem to indicate otherwise. Doocy is a professional and probably would not belittle the press secretary regardless of what he personally thinks. But he is relentless when questioning Biden’s actions.
