Elon Musk swipes at Biden over his silence: ‘He’s still sleeping’

SpaceX CEO Elon Musk took a swipe at President Joe Biden on Sunday following the world’s first successful all-civilian mission splashing down on Saturday, claiming that the president was sleeping while history was being made.

One Twitter fan asked Musk after the completion of the mission, “The President of the United States has refused to even acknowledge the 4 newest American astronauts who helped raise hundreds of millions of dollars for St. Jude. What’s your theory on why that is?”

Musk didn’t miss a beat and replied, “He’s still sleeping.”

SpaceX safely returned its Crew Dragon spacecraft from orbit on Saturday as the world breathlessly watched once again the innovation and brilliance of Musk’s endeavors. Biden’s, not so much. He was taking downtime in Delaware as multiple crises churned the nation.

The spaceflight launched four civilians into orbit earlier in the week and was in orbit for three days. The passengers included billionaire Jared Isaacman, Hayley Arceneaux, Dr. Sian Proctor, and data engineer Chris Sembroski.

Inspiration4 Mission Director Kip O’Keefe remarked at a news conference, “It’s been an amazing ride for everyone. We couldn’t ask for a more successful mission,” according to Express.co.uk.

CNBC reported that the goal of the Inspiration4 mission was to raise $200 million for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Musk pledged $50 million himself and the final total raised was $210 million.

NASA officials, including administrator of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration Bill Nelson, congratulated Musk and SpaceX after the mission, giving a nod to the man who is doing what they can’t seem to accomplish. Musk’s competitors also sent a pat on the back to SpaceX for the mission. Those include rival Jeff Bezos of Amazon fame, Boeing, Lockheed Martin, and Blue Origin.

Not only was this the first private SpaceX spaceflight, with a civilian crew, it also had the first black woman pilot who conducted the mission, the youngest American to ever become an astronaut, and the first person to venture into space with a prosthesis. But there was no acknowledgment from President Biden at all concerning the flight.

Even though Musk “would prefer to stay out of politics,” he couldn’t resist jabbing Biden over not making a statement following the event.

SpaceX will now focus on its next mission where it will launch four passengers including one NASA astronaut and three wealthy businessmen into space. They will reportedly travel to the international space station for a week-long visit.

Former President Trump frequently referred to Biden as “Sleepy Joe” and Musk’s quip seems to be utilizing that moniker when describing the President.

Trump is still needling Biden over his lethargic responses. He reportedly sent a message to Biden ahead of a summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin in June, stating, “Good luck to Biden in dealing with President Putin— don’t fall asleep during the meeting, and please give him my warmest regards!”

Biden was also accused of falling asleep during a meeting with Israel’s newly elected Prime Minister Naftali Bennett. The White House and CNN claim that the assertion is untrue.
