Police officer who killed unarmed Ashli Babbitt has been officially exonerated. ‘No further action…’

The unnamed Capitol Police officer who shot and killed protester Ashli Babbitt during the Capitol Hill riot on Jan. 6 has been formally exonerated following an internal investigation and the matter has been dismissed.

NBC News is reporting that they have obtained a memo verifying the clearing of the officer involved. His identity has still not been revealed. The memo is from the commander of the Capitol Police’s Office of Personal Responsibility. It states, “no further action will be taken in this matter.”

The officer shot Babbitt as she attempted to climb through a broken window into an interior chamber of the Capitol. He was off to the side as she started to come through. Babbitt, 35, was the only person reportedly killed that day.

In April, the Justice Department announced that the officer involved would not be charged in her killing. The exoneration of the officer was the last step in the investigation and he is now officially cleared of any wrongdoing according to the government.

The ruling will not sit well with many Americans who watched the video of the shooting. Many contend the shooting was unjustified and they are enraged that the officer’s identity was never released in the matter. Rep. Paul Gosar (R-AZ) has branded Babbitt’s death as “an execution,” and he has accused the officer who shot her of “lying in wait” to do so.

Babbitt was unarmed when she was shot and killed. She was a decorated Air Force veteran who served in multiple Middle East tours from 2004 to 2016.

She was also a staunch supporter of former President Trump and a conservative activist who has been endlessly smeared and vilified in the media and public square following her tragic death.

The Justice Department released a statement in April that asserted the investigation had not found any evidence that the officer in question had violated any federal laws and there was nothing that contradicted his belief that it was necessary to shoot Babbitt “in self-defense or in defense of the Members of Congress and others evacuating the House Chamber.”

“Officials examined video footage posted on social media, statements from the officer involved and other officers and witnesses to the events, physical evidence from the scene of the shooting, and the results of an autopsy,” and “based on that investigation, officials determined that there is insufficient evidence to support a criminal prosecution,” the statement concluded.

Babbitt’s family is suing for the identity of the officer to be publicly released but so far that effort has not borne fruit. They are also filing a $10 million wrongful death lawsuit, claiming the officer didn’t issue a verbal command according to the Washington Examiner. The officer’s attorney claims he gave multiple verbal commands but they were inaudible on the video because he was wearing a mask. That begs the question then whether Babbitt could hear them either if he did indeed issue them.

Former President Trump has called for the identity of the officer to be released. Trump claims he is “head of security” for a “high-ranking” Democratic member of Congress. The media is claiming that is untrue but there has been no solid proof to date to negate Trump’s claim.

“I spoke to the wonderful mother and devoted husband of Ashli Babbitt, who was murdered at the hands of someone who should never have pulled the trigger of his gun. We know who he is,” he declared.

“If that happened to the ‘other side,’ there would be riots all over America and yet, there are far more people represented by Ashli, who truly loved America, than there are on the other side. The Radical Left haters cannot be allowed to get away with this. There must be justice!” Trump proclaimed.

The statement by the former president was released shortly after the attorney representing Babbitt’s family told investigative journalist Paul Sperry that the officer who killed her had not provided any verbal warnings before opening fire on her resulting in Babbitt’s death.

“It’s not debatable. There was no warning. I would call what he did an ambush. I don’t think he’s a good officer. I think he’s reckless,” attorney Terrell N. Roberts III, who specializes in police misconduct cases, asserted.

Americans are still demanding answers over the shooting of Ashli Babbitt:
