GOP Arizona Congressman Paul Gosar tweeted on Friday his ongoing support for protester Ashli Babbitt: “They took her life. They could not take her pride.” His proclamation comes the same day the Senate Republicans voted to block the Jan. 6 commission.
Babbitt, an Air Force veteran and a supporter of former President Trump, was the only person to be shot and killed on that fateful day. The police officer who took her life as she entered the Capitol building, crawling through a broken-out window that led to the Speaker’s Lobby and House Chamber where lawmakers were meeting, has had all charges dropped against him and his identity has not been revealed. The Justice Department claims there is insufficient evidence to support criminal charges in the matter.
Gosar quoted a U2 lyric from “Pride (In the Name of Love)” about the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. to get his point across, enraging leftists and squishy Republicans. The Congressman has been a strong proponent of Babbitt and is demanding that authorities “release the tapes” in her case and others.
Earlier in May, Gosar hotly defended Babbitt in a hearing before Congress. The Arizona lawmaker described Babbitt as “a young lady, a veteran, wrapped in an American flag that was killed in the U.S. Capitol.” He claimed she was “executed” and called the majority of protesters “peaceful patriots.”

Gosar’s accusations came during a high-profile hearing held by the House Oversight and Reform Committee. In that hearing, Gosar asked a series of questions addressing former acting Attorney General Jeffrey Rosen.
“Do you recall the name of the young lady, a veteran wrapped in an American flag, who was killed in the U.S. Capitol?” Gosar queried Rosen.
“I do. Her name was Ashli Babbitt,” Rosen answered.

Gosar then asked Rosen if Babbitt had been armed. To which he tersely replied: “Again, Congressman, I need to be respectful of your observations, but I just don’t want to talk about individual situations,” Rosen declared.
“No, she wasn’t. She was wrapped in a U.S. flag,” Gosar proclaimed. “Was the death of Ashli Babbitt a homicide?”
“Congressman, I’m not trying to be unhelpful here. But I just cannot comment,” Rosen started to object before Gosar interrupted him.
“As the death certificate says, it was a homicide. Who executed Ashli Babbitt?” Gosar demanded. Rosen declined to comment again.
“My constituents demand answers. But the truth is being censored and covered up. As a result, the [Justice Department] is harassing peaceful patriots across the country,” noted Gosar. “Without accurate answers, conspiracies continue to form.”
Gosar also stated at the hearing that “outright propaganda and lies are being used to unleash the national security state against law-abiding U.S. citizens, especially Trump voters.”
More than 500 people have now been charged by federal authorities over the riot. A number of those arrested have allegedly been sitting in jail for more than 100 days.
Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-IL), who was one of a handful of Republicans who voted to impeach Trump over the riot, asserted: “Paul you’ve lost your mind. Side note to anyone watching, don’t breach the house floor illegally, especially after warned.”
