Leaked doc claims 20 percent migrant children leaving Border Patrol custody covid positive: report

A devastating new internal report has been leaked from the Biden administration showing a shocking number of COVID cases among illegal immigrant children.

According to NBC News, the document, which was prepared for an upcoming Thursday briefing by President Joe Biden, states that more than 18 percent of illegal immigrant families and 20 percent of unaccompanied illegal immigrant children have tested positive for COVID-19 while leaving Border Patrol custody in the last few weeks.  More than 25 percent of deportees on outbound flights tested positive, prompting the removal of deportees to quarantine facilities in the United States.

The Department of Homeland Security has confirmed that apprehended illegal immigrants are not tested for COVID unless they display symptoms, but they are tested when they leave Border Patrol custody.  The time and cost of testing all the immigrants have taxed Border Control resources, and the briefing materials note that there is a significant slow down in deportations as a result, despite a token increased deportation effort in July.

The rise in cases is attributed to these lengthier stays in custody combined with the more virulent delta variant of COVID,  according to a second DHS document prepared this week for the White House, NBC reported.  While some of the materials discuss testing all illegal immigrants detained by the Border Patrol, the same materials state that the Border Patrol does not have the resources or capability for such mass tests.

“In the last 2-3 weeks, the percent positivity rates among all demographics has increased,” the document stated, according to NBC which reported sources indicated that the higher rates prompted emergency meetings this week between the White House, HHS and DHS.

“DHS and CBP takes its responsibility to prevent the spread of Covid-19 and other diseases very seriously,” a White House spokesperson said in a statement, according to NBC.

“CBP provides migrants who can’t be expelled…or are awaiting processing with PPE from the moment they are taken into custody, and migrants are required to keep masks on at all times, including when they are transferred or in the process of being released. If anyone exhibits signs of illness in CBP custody, they are referred to local health systems for appropriate testing, diagnosis, isolation and treatment,” the statement read.

The situation on the border has continued to deteriorate, with calls for impeachment of Director of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas.

In particular, there has been an outcry over the situation of unaccompanied children, with 834 children being taken into custody in a single day at one point, despite the serious dangers at the border, such as potentially lethal triple-digit heat.  There were more than 200,000 illegal immigrants apprehended in July, according to the NBC report.

Despite all the hand-wringing done under President Trump, even The New York Times notes that many groups claiming to care about immigrants have been silent to the plight of so many children in detainment facilities, where many demonstrate self-harm and suicidal risk behaviors – to the deafening silence of Trump’s critics.
