‘This is by design’: Homan demands accountability on border disaster, GOP calls for Mayorkas ouster grow

Former ICE chief Tom Homan thinks it’s “better late than never” for Republican lawmakers to be moving to impeach Department of Homeland Security Director Alejandro Mayorkas.

Mayorkas has been under a great deal of fire lately, and the GOP is openly discussing impeaching the beleaguered DHS Director, with Homan telling Fox News that he’s “sick and tired” of congressmen “raising hell about the border but taking no action.”

“The border issue has turned into a humanitarian crisis, it has turned into a national security crisis. It has turned into a public health crisis because all the Covid cases coming across… This needs to be front and center and nothing else should happen on the Hill until they hold the administration accountable for creating this crisis,” Homan said on “Fox & Friends First” Monday.

The Biden administration’s response to the border crisis has been a lightning rod for criticism for months now, but most of the criticism has been leveled at Vice President Kamala Harris, who was effectively named “Border Czar” by President Joe Biden months ago. Recently, however, some of the winds of criticism have shifted towards Mayorkas.

Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) recently called for the outright impeachment of the DHS director.

“Over the past several months, President Biden and Secretary Mayorkas have blatantly and consistently refused to do their constitutional duty to take care that the immigration laws be faithfully executed, as required by Article II, endangering countless American and foreign lives in the process,” Roy said on Fox News last week.

Roy has made it clear that he would like to extend this towards President Biden himself, as well:

Rep. Andy Biggs (R-AZ) had scathing words as well:

“Secretary Mayorkas is a threat to the sovereignty and security of our nation. As a result of his actions and policies, America is more in danger today than when he began serving as Secretary. He is willfully refusing to maintain operational control of the border and is encouraging aliens to enter our country illegally,” Biggs said in a statement.

“Under his direction, DHS is systematically releasing COVID-19 positive aliens into our communities, subjecting the American people to unnecessary and avoidable risks. Secretary Mayorkas is failing to faithfully uphold his oath of office and is presiding over a reckless abandonment of border security and immigration enforcement, at the expense of the U.S. Constitution and the security of the United States,” stated Biggs, who has announced his intention to do the actual filing of the articles of impeachment at some point in the near future.

Homan has also been very vocal about his criticism of Mayorkas, but expressed pessimism over efforts to impeach, telling Fox News that it would go nowhere due to Democrats’ control of Congress, but that it was important nonetheless in order to send a message to the Biden administration that the American people are upset about this state of affairs:

The former Acting Director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement stated that change was unlikely due to Mayorkas doing exactly what the Biden administration wanted: allowing an unfettered, uncontrolled flood of illegal immigration.

“This is by design,” he said, referring to the administration’s lack of interest in fixing the problem, but merely “fixing the optics” (the public relations angle of the situation).

“It’s going to get worse.  Again, let me be clear: this administration has not done one thing, not a single thing, to slow the flow.  They haven’t added a consequence or deterrence for these people coming across the border” he added ominously near the end of the interview.

Homan has been very outspoken on the border crisis, repeatedly appearing on Fox News to offer insight from his experience leading ICE.

The crisis at the border has had passions high, due in part to the flood of illegal immigrants testing positive for Covid-19.  In addition, the smuggling of drugs, Fentanyl in particular, has risen dramatically in recent months.

Many are quick to note the hypocrisy of President Biden demanding Americans to mask up and submit to harsh Covid restrictions and lockdowns, while simultaneously doing nothing about illegal immigration in the porous southern border.  This blasé and lethargic attitude has not extended towards refugees trying to escape Cuba‘s communist tyranny, either, fueling outrage over hypocrisy and double standards.
