Rand Paul fires back at bitter ‘C-list celebrity’ after receiving death threat package with explicit message

U.S. Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) received a package on Monday at his home filled with white powder and bearing an image that was a clear death threat after singer Richard Marx cheered on violence against him a day previously.

The FBI is now investigating the incident. On the outside of the package was reportedly a photoshopped image of an injured and bandaged Paul with a rifle pointed at his head. An explicit death threat was written underneath it according to Fox News: “I’ll finish what your neighbor started you motherf***er.” The sender is still unknown.

“I take these threats immensely seriously,” Paul said in a statement on Monday. “I have been targeted multiple times now, it is reprehensible that Twitter allows C-list celebrities to advocate for violence against me and my family. This must stop. Just this weekend Richard Marx called for violence against me and now we receive this despicable powder-filled letter.”

A Twitter spokesperson said in an emailed statement that Marx’s tweet was not in violation of the company’s policies.

In 2017, Paul was attacked from behind by his neighbor, Rene Boucher, as he was riding his lawnmower. The senator was seriously hurt with six of his ribs broken and numerous other injuries. The neighbor eventually pleaded guilty to assaulting a member of Congress.

After that attack, Paul also had a close call with his wife Kelley when they tried to make their way back to their hotel after former President Trump’s Republican National Convention acceptance speech at the White House. A violent mob surrounded them and, if not for security, it could have ended very badly for the couple.

“First, there were a handful of people — then 30, then 60, then over 100 screaming and out-of-control lunatics,” Paul remarked. The mob was “shouting awful death threats. Curses. Shoving,” he noted. “One person in the mob violently slammed into a policeman just behind me.”

Richard Marx is a singer who gained popularity in the ’80s with songs such as “Don’t Mean Nothing,” “Should’ve Known Better,” “Endless Summer Nights,” “Satisfied,” “Right Here Waiting,” and “Hold On to the Nights.”

He tweeted on Sunday: “I’ll say it again: If I ever meet Rand Paul’s neighbor I’m going to hug him and buy him as many drinks as he can consume.” He went on to tweet in response to someone calling him out on the social media platform: “You see, Johnny-Bob…unlike your hero/führer now residing down at MaraLoco, I never incited nor even suggested anyone be violent. Certainly not towards the traitor known as Rand Paul. I’m just saying that the fact someone slugged him doesn’t break my heart.”

Paul’s chief strategist, Doug Stafford, brutally slammed the singer, “So, you’re a cheerleader for felony assault that resulted in six broken ribs, 3 displaced, multiple pneumonias and part of a lung being removed?”

Marx’s comments concerning Paul appear to be in response to an interview where the senator stated that he had no plans to get the COVID-19 vaccine since he had already contracted and recovered from the virus. But it could have been for any number of political stances the conservative senator has taken.

“Until they show me evidence that people who have already had the infection are dying in large numbers or being hospitalized or getting very sick, I just made my own personal decision that I’m not getting vaccinated because I’ve already had the disease and I have natural immunity,” Paul told WABC-AM radio. “In a free country, you would think people would honor the idea that each individual would get to make the medical decision.”
