When former child model Courtney Stodden first accused notorious anti-Trump zealot and fellow model/actress Chrissy Teigen last year of having bullied her as a child, barely anybody paid attention.

But thanks to conservative firebrand Candace Owens, the whole world is now keenly watching.

It all started Monday when The Daily Beast published an interview with Stodden in which she spoke in more detail about the allegations she’d first trotted out last year.

“She wouldn’t just publicly tweet about wanting me to take ‘a dirt nap’ but would privately DM me and tell me to kill myself. Things like, ‘I can’t wait for you to die,'” the former child star told the outlet.

The story was picked up a day later by the U.K. Daily Mail, which is where Owens learned about it. In response to reading the story, she posted the following angry tweets:

And just like that, the story blew up.

Less than 24 hours after Owens brought attention to the story, Teigen finally — over a year after Stodden had first informed the world about her treatment — apologized.

“I have tried to connect with Courtney privately but since I publicly fueled all this, I want to also publicly apologize. I’m so sorry, Courtney. I hope you can heal now knowing how deeply sorry I am. And I am so sorry I let you guys down. I will forever work on being better than I was 10 years ago, 1 year ago, 6 months ago,” the abusive celebrity tweeted Wednesday afternoon.

However, neither Owens nor Stodden were impressed.

“I accept her apology and forgive her. But the truth remains the same, I have never heard from her or her camp in private. In fact, she blocked me on Twitter. All of me wants to believe this is a sincere apology, but it feels like a public attempt to save her partnerships with Target and other brands who are realizing her ‘wokeness’ is a broken record,” Stodden wrote in an Instagram post.

Owens meanwhile drew attention to the fact that, despite Teigen’s apology, plenty of equally nasty tweets directed at other people — including former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin — still remain up, and no apology has yet been forthcoming.

Based on Teigen’s record, Owens believes the celebrity apologized this week only because “I blew the story up.” It’s certainly possible.

What’s known is that the celebrity apparently has a habit of saying things she doesn’t mean and making promises she can’t keep.

Case in point: In March she posted that she was quitting Twitter for good. Yet by mid-April, she’d returned.

That wasn’t even the first time she’d pulled this stunt.

“[A]fter getting a vitriolic response to her comments regarding the October 22 shootings in Ottawa, Ontario, Teigen posted that she’s quitting Twitter for the (presumably) safer pastures of Instagram,” CNN reported in 2014.

According to CNN, the backlash erupted after the actress responded to a mass shooting by tweeting, “active shooting in Canada, or as we call it in america, wednesday. That’s not a joke. It is a fact. … I’ve lost faith in this world. Sorry if it comes off as being unemotional. There is just so much bad.”

The backlash proved to be too much for her at the time, though obviously, she eventually returned to tweeting because her word apparently doesn’t mean anything.
