On Wednesday, Twitter inexplicably and in the eyes of many, suspiciously, suspended the account for GOP Rep. Elise Stefanik’s communications director Karoline Leavitt. They called it an “error” and reinstated the account on Thursday morning.
This comes as Stefanik (R-NY) is seen as the leading contender to replace Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) as the House Republican Conference chair.
In an interview with Fox News on Tuesday morning, Leavitt stated that she was given no explanation for the suspension on Twitter after she was locked out of her account Wednesday evening.

“This has been reversed, and the account has been reinstated,” the spokesperson claimed. “The account’s followers will take 24-48 hours to fully restore.”
Why does this ONLY happen to conservatives?!
Absolutely outrageous.
Because Big Tech is corrupt. That’s why. https://t.co/fl3WFoDzqb

“The only reason I can think that Twitter would have suspended me is that I followed several Republican members of Congress and GOP activists at once last night, and within minutes, my account had been suspended,” Leavitt noted to Fox News.
Her last posts before the suspension were all connected to Stefanik’s efforts to supplant Cheney. That included a retweet of a post that announced Stefanik’s interview on Steve Bannon’s show.
Tomorrow @EliseStefanik joins Steve Bannon exclusively at 10 a.m. on #WarRoom.

Leavitt also tweeted a link to former President Trump’s new communications platform, “From the Desk of Donald J. Trump.” “Maybe because I’m sharing former President Trump’s website and tweeted out the official link?” Leavitt wondered.
“Republicans have been screaming from the rooftops for months that if they can silence the president of the United States, they can silence you,” Leavitt remarked. “That is not just a Republican talking point. That is the truth. That’s what’s happening here.”
She contended that she is the “spokesperson for an official member of Congress going through one of her most contested news cycles in her career.”
“I need access to the platform,” she explained referencing her job. “The fact that Twitter is suspending me for no rhyme or reason is insane.”
Stefanik was justifiably incensed over the development and weighed in on the issue: “BIG TECH on the MOVE! Twitter just suspended my Communications Director,” Stefanik stated on Twitter. She called Twitter’s suspension an “unconstitutional overreach SILENCING our voices and freedom of speech.”
“Republicans are united in fighting back against Big Tech’s tyranny,” Stefanik tweeted. “Millions of Americans will not be silenced!”

All of this is occurring a day after Facebook decided to keep Trump’s ban in place for now. However, Facebook’s Oversight Board noted that it was “not appropriate” for the social media platform to impose the “indeterminate and standardless penalty of indefinite suspension,” and gave the company six months to review their decision.
Stefanik now appears to be the favorite to replace Cheney and there are allegedly enough votes in the House with the support of House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy to get the job done. For Cheney’s party, she reportedly will not fight the move and instead double-downed on her attack on Trump claiming she doesn’t think it’s worth it to hold on to her post.
Source tells me that House GOP conference chair Liz Cheney is indicating to allies that she won’t fight ouster effort, saying she doesn’t think it’s worth having to perpetuate Trump’s lies to keep her post.

Minority Whip Steve Scalise (R-LA) is in Stefanik’s corner as are many House Republicans.
“House Republicans need to be solely focused on taking back the House in 2022 and fighting against Speaker Pelosi and President Biden’s radical socialist agenda, and Elise Stefanik is strongly committed to doing that, which is why Whip Scalise has pledged to support her for Conference Chair,” Scalise spokesperson Lauren Fine commented to Fox News.
Trump is also supporting Stefanik for the leadership post. He labeled Cheney as a “warmonger” with “virtually no support left in the Great State of Wyoming,” and reiterated that the presidential election was stolen.
“Liz Cheney is a warmongering fool who has no business in Republican Party Leadership,” Trump proclaimed. “We want leaders who believe in the Make America Great Again movement and prioritize the values of America First. Elise Stefanik is a far superior choice, and she has my COMPLETE and TOTAL Endorsement for GOP Conference Chair. Elise is a tough and smart communicator!”
