Rep. Boebert trolls Biden with space blanket and live-tweets during chamber speech; celebs gush

U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) made a striking visual statement at President Biden’s address to Congress on Wednesday when she pulled out a space blanket and took a swipe at his approach to the ‘war zone’ taking place on the southern U.S. border.

The blanket is similar to those being handed out to illegal immigrants being sheltered in overcrowded detention facilities on the border. The GOP congresswoman “was trying to highlight the recent surge of migrants at the U.S.-Mexico border,” The Hill noted, citing a spokesperson for Boebert.

“President Biden did not address or bring attention to the crisis at our southern border. So Rep. Boebert did,” her spokesperson said.

Boebert was also seen live-tweeting during the speech and she was the focus of cameras while Biden spoke about gun control. She questioned the social distancing measures that were enforced during the speech and tweeted on Hunter Biden as well.

Boebert was among the very few House Republicans who attended Biden’s address to Congress on Wednesday. The pandemic was ostensibly used as an excuse for limited invitations to conservative lawmakers by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. Only 200 lawmakers were invited to the event.

The firebrand representative made a show of pulling out the thermal space blanket as she snapped it open to place it on her lap, clapping back at the border crisis.

Boebert hated the speech in general and snarked on it repeatedly to her followers:

Leftists immediately attacked Boebert on Twitter for her political statement utilizing a space blanket. They seemed to intentionally miss her point on the border altogether and instead, painted her as crazy.

The president did, at one point, urge lawmakers to pass immigration reform, admonishing them to “get at the root of the problem of why people are fleeing to our southern border” from countries such as Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador in the Northern Triangle.

“Let’s end our exhausting war over immigration,” Biden stated.

“Now, if Congress won’t pass my plan – let’s at least pass what we agree on. Congress needs to pass legislation this year to finally secure protection for the Dreamers – the young people who have only known America as their home,” Biden added.

Boebert also took issue with Biden’s call for gun control. He called for a ban on assault weapons and high-capacity magazines.

The conservative lawmaker reportedly did not clap or stand when Biden called for everyone to be vaccinated either, according to NBC News Capitol Hill correspondent Kasie Hunt. Boebert was also called out for live-tweeting during the speech.

“What I want to hear in Biden’s speech is how to solve the border crisis,” Boebert tweeted. “What I will hear are plans to spend trillions of dollars and raise taxes.”

She quipped: “What I don’t want to hear are disingenuous calls for unity from this authoritarian leader and his radical administration.”

“Is it me or is Biden talking about a lot of problems that were created in his nearly 50 years in office,” Boebert wondered in another comment.

And on gun control, she snarked: “Will Joe Biden start his gun control crusade by investigating Hunter?”

She tweeted out on her personal account: “You just heard Joe Biden ramble on for an hour about how government is the solution to everything. It is not.” Later she tweeted: “We, the people, have had enough of big government.”

Biden’s speech was widely promoted by the left as akin to Kennedy’s moon speech. While conservatives such as Boebert and Sen. Ted Cruz panned the speech, celebrities and the media embraced it and gushed platitudes of adoration:
