Fox News poll shows 3 out of 4 say border security worse under Biden; ratings tank on immigration

Voters say the border situation appears to be worse today compared to two years ago by an eye-opening 46-15 percent margin, according to a Fox News survey published this morning.

The same poll shows that the majority of Americans disapprove of President Biden’s handling of border security and immigration since taking office just a few months ago. Fifty-two percent said they disapproved of his performance on immigration and just 34% approved. Border security garners similar sentiments from voters with a 51% disapproval rating and just 35% approval.

Republicans see the the issue even less favorably with almost 90% of Republican’s disapproving of Biden’s border security and immigration policies.  On the other hand, 64% of Democrats approve on these issues and 20% of Democrats didn’t share an opinion.

Biden’s ratings confirm that people view him as the cause for the border situation, likely after the public became aware of the poor conditions at many of the migrant facilities, with kids crammed into cages like sardines, leading some to question if the US is committing a human rights violation.  Also, a facility housing migrant girls mysteriously shut down earlier this month, the day after the death of a staffer with no notice other than the buses pulling up at the facility to take the girls away.

In fact, some 56% of voters indicated they thought Biden’s election “completely” or “mostly” is the cause of the increase in migrants since he took office.

But they aren’t alone in their belief.

Biden himself admitted in his first press conference after taking office, “Well look, I guess I should be flattered people are coming because I’m the ‘nice guy’.  That’s the reason why it’s happening, that I’m a decent man or however it’s phrased.  That’s why they’re coming because they know Biden’s a nice guy.”

Answers to questions about illegal immigration and the treatment of illegal migrants at the US-Mexico border show that about two-thirds of voters are either “extremely” or “very concerned” about the issues.

Around three-quarters of the respondents indicated they were “extremely” or “very concerned” about the economy (78%), gun laws (74%)  and health care (73%). Infrastructure and illegal immigration received similar disapproval marks at 68 and 67 percent, respectively.

The poll did show some areas where Biden achieved higher marks. When it came to the handling of the COVID-19 pandemic, 58% approve and 34% disapprove. However, fewer American’s approved of his heath care policies with a 48% approval and 37% disapproval rating in this area.

The poll was conducted at the request of Fox News by Beacon Research (formerly Anderson Robbins Research) (D) and Shaw & Company (R). Just over a thousand registered voters — 1002 — were interviewed by landline (157) and cellphone (845) between April 18-21.  The numbers were randomly selected to be proportional to the number of voters from each state.  The error rate was +/- 3 percentage points.
