Dozens of Minnesota retailers have been looted during and following the riot over the police-involved shooting and killing of Daunte Wright on Sunday in Minnesota. But one unverified sign said it all when it comes to virtue signaling from businesses to appease the “woke mob.”
A tweet from writer Rita Panahi states: “Woke signage won’t save you from the woke mob.” The picture below it shows a business with broken-out windows, graffiti, and a pristine, untouched sign that declares: “Racism has no place here. We support the Black community.” There is no indication where the picture was taken or if it has been photoshopped, but the message is clear and blunt. If the sign is legitimate, it definitely did not work.
What can be verified is that numerous businesses in Minnesota were vandalized, looted, and in one case, set on fire as a result of the riot.
Businesses were targeted in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota, which boasts a population of approximately 30,000 people.

On Monday, Minnesota Department of Public Safety Commissioner John Harrington called out the looters who targeted the Shingle Creek mall: “We have reports of approximately 20 businesses that were broken into,” Harrington stated. Walmart was also attacked. The mall is two miles from where Wright was shot.

Businesses that were hit included Foot Locker, T-Mobile, and To New York, which is a men’s clothing store. A Little Caesars and a GameStop were not spared either. There were bullet holes in the windows and there was a lot of destruction that took place along with the looting.
“I understand why people are frustrated, I do,” To New York’s store manager, Andre Stevenson said. “But this isn’t going to solve anything, ultimately.”

“The events of last night did result in some of our stores being damaged,” a Walmart spokesperson told FOX Business. “Out of an abundance of caution, those stores will be closed until further notice. We’re continuing to monitor the situation and will determine when it’s appropriate for our locations to reopen.”

The looting is widespread in parts of Minneapolis. Retailers are still recovering from the vandalism and looting that occurred after the death of George Floyd in May of 2020. Many of those businesses reportedly say they cannot survive another siege like the first one.
UPDATE: Looting has now spread to parts of Minneapolis. This cell phone store on East Lake Street, near Lyndale was hit. The front door apparently smashed by a rock. @KARE11 pic.twitter.com/Ik9jzVaPQz

The owner of Iron Door Pub said his business was looted: “They took some cases of booze, I’m not sure what else they took,” he said. Bank of America and Chicago Lake Liquors were also trashed and looted.
The National Guard has been activated but did not seem to be able to stop or prevent the theft.
Many on Twitter agreed with Panahi’s tweeted sign and spoke up in support of its message:
