The U.S. Capitol was locked down on Friday after numerous reports of gunshots ringing out in the area surfaced and the alleged shooting of multiple officers aired.
According to U.S. Capitol Police, all Capitol buildings have been locked down “due to an external security threat.” Staff members were informed that they were not to go into or exit the buildings.
Those already inside the Capitol are being allowed to move throughout the buildings but they have been instructed to stay away from exterior windows and doors. Those that are outside have been told to take cover immediately.
An anonymous source told the AP that police responded to a possible shooting near the Capitol complex. Details are still vague and it is not clear how many have been shot or injured. Two stretchers were seen with individuals on them.
Reports of a car smashing into the Capitol perimeter injuring two officers were also widely circulated.
